Job Description: Senior Manager, Software Development
Specific Skills: The candidate must have a complete understanding of the software engineering process from software planning through software requirements verification and maintenance. Experience as a Software Development Manager, Software Engineering Manager, Application Development Manager or related position managing technical teams with an ongoing desire to be hands-on driving project execution and change with a can-do attitude is a must. Excellent leadership skill, with proven experience leading software development projects is required. Candidate must have an expertise in software architecture, design, implementation, integration, debug and test of real-time and embedded software intensive systems. Excellent time management, communication, decision making, presentation and organization skills are a must.
Duties: Primary responsibilities will be to ensure the performance and productivity of their direct reports and that the defined software engineering process is continuously improving and being followed. The Software Development Senior Manager will need to build and maintain close relationships with program management, technical directors, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient development processes are being followed, issues are being resolved and projects are within budget and on schedule. The Software Development Senior Manager will be responsible for resource management, project planning, analyzing feasibility, and estimating cost and schedule. The Software Development Senior Manager will ensure that their staff is productive and efficient in their work thru periodic technical reviews of their efforts. They will assist their reports with the improvement and practice of our development methodology to consistently enhance and predictably deliver product.
The Software Development Senior Manager will also be responsible for career counseling for each direct report with performance evaluations throughout the year. The Software Development Senior Manager will prepare and administer performance reviews for those individuals on their staff. The Software Development Senior Manager will be involved with the career growth, mentoring and retention of their Software Unit Managers and staff. They will assist the Software Engineering Skill Center Director with department budgets, training and staffing plans.
The focus of the Software Development Senior Manager is primarily leadership and management. The Software Development Senior Manager will be asked at times to perform direct contract work as time permits.
Minimum Requirements: U.S. Citizen, Bachelors Degree in an engineering discipline, Masters desired. 15 years of technical experience in software development with 5 years of project leadership and experience managing a software development team. Active Security Clearance required (DOD Secret minimum).
Additional Job Notes: Development experience in any of the following areas would be considered highly beneficial: Information Assurance (Type 1, commercial IPSEC, hardware/software based encryption, key management, secure communications both wired and wireless), Naval Communications (interior or exterior), Tactical Recorders both spinning and solid state, SIGINT Systems, Unattended Ground Sensors.
