Description
Position Summary: Represents the Software Quality Assurance Department on software development projects for products by implementing software quality assurance practices and procedures. The Software Test Engineer/Developer will lead the design, development, and maintenance of the automation system and test tools to meet QA requirements. They demonstrate proficiency with software development tools and languages, can run and debug the product in a self host environment, and participate directly with development to build testability into the product.
Principal Duties:
Performs duties of Quality Assurance Analyst I/II as needed
Provides software development and maintains software testing tools using accepted development technologies
Identifies areas that can be automated to improve accuracy and efficiency
Provides advanced debugging of products in self-hosted configurations as needed
Provides analysis of code and coding practices and feedback to Software Developers to increase testability of developed products
Provides technical input and identifies areas to promote efficiency and accuracy in the testing process
May lead key technical testing areas that require technical expertise beyond QA Analyst or QA Analyst II
May be responsible for developing/maintaining automated build processes for products
Will mentor QA Analysts in areas of technical expertise as needed
Education: Bachelor's Degree (CS/EE) and 2 years experience or Associates Degree (CS/EE) with 4 years experience in software development and testing (combined). Direct experience (or a combination thereof) may be substituted year for year for Education equivalence.
Experience: 6 years combined experience (education and work) in an IT Quality Assurance-related or Software Development position required. Experience in a team lead/supervisory capacity is preferred. Experience developing software and automation frameworks, and Testing desired.
Specific Skills: Moderate knowledge and demonstrated use of managed and unmanaged programming solutions. High level understanding of data-driven web applications (Internet and Client-Server), databases desirable. Good project management skills and ability to multi-task is desired. Basic understanding of SQL (ability to construct SQL queries that join multiple tables, retrieve data elements directly from tables, etc). Must have the ability to read and understand technical documentation containing functional requirements and SQL queries. Must have the ability to articulate feedback to Project Managers on deficiencies in the documents pertaining to testability and level of detail. Must have the ability to develop and execute Manual Test Plans containing Manual Test Cases (with detailed test steps) that verify all functional requirements in a Requirement Specification Document. Candidate must have the ability to develop Test Cases based on the Requirement Specification Document before it is implemented/developed.
Special knowledge, licenses, etc.: Good understanding of quality management, its concepts, techniques, tools and procedures, especially with respect to software quality and quality in the financial service industry. Knowledge of the financial services industry and company systems helpful. Project planning and management skills preferred. Knowledge of problem solving processes and problem solving tools/techniques to support quality improvement. Additional training will be provided by recognized QA training vendors as well as on the job from product management staff and the QA Manager.
Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts. Excellent oral and written communication. Ability to interface well with IT staff and other non-technical members of the organization. Strong organizational skills required to prioritize work and meet established deadlines. Ability to write procedures and documentation. Must be very detail oriented. Must be self-directed and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Must be committed to exceptional customer service and support. Must possess strong problem analysis and decision-making ability. Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None direct, but may, at times, lead a team of 1-5 people.
Position Scope: Responsible for testing related development, test planning, testing, and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
Working Conditions (Physical Demands): General fast-paced office environment. Incumbent is required to talk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach, lift, and walk. Incumbent must be able to communicate by way of telephone. Keyboarding is required. Infrequent lifting of 25 pounds required. Regular use of computer screen to complete tasks. Noise level is low.
Contacts: Contact is primarily with staff in quality assurance, product development and systems to test newly developed applications. Occasional contact with clients and account managers to research issues that may occur after a release.
Others (Work Schedule/Travel/On Call, etc.): Occasional travel may be required. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required during busy periods, emergencies or critical user problems requiring immediate attention. Flexibility required to meet important deadlines.
