Overview:
The Kilovac division of Tyco electronics is located in Carpinteria, CA and provides high voltage relays and power supplies for aerospace, automotive, telecommunications, and marine markets globally.
This position is responsible for managing and coordinating the core activities of the manufacturing engineering department consisting of mfg. engineers, maintenance, industrial engineers and technicians. This position reports directly to the General Manager. The ME Manager works closely with manufacturing, product management, quality and R&D functions in order to achieve the business' continuous improvement goals.
The ME Manager supports the development and implementation of methods, processes, cost reductions and related solutions encountered in the relay manufacturing process all through the lean initiative.
A major responsibility of the position is the direct support of Tyco Electronics Operating Advantage (TEOA) culture. As such the manager must have demonstrated experience working in a lean environment with specific experience as part of a successful lean transformation.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Prioritize the work load for the department based on the operation's overall goals.
2. Provide a leadership role and act as a change agent to support the implementaiton of lean to attain world class status in manufacturing operations.
3. Provide the support and leadership required to develop a strong and capable engineering team.
4. Investigate manufacturing engineering problems to determine root cause of manufacturing defects or failures and implement permanent solutions.
5. Make recommendations to correct and resolve problems by suggesting design changes, process or equipment changes and tooling modifications.
6. Identify, manage and champion appropriate 6 sigma projects.
Required skills, education and experience:
1. BS degree or higher in mechanical or Manufacturing.
2. Minimum 5 yrs engineering management experience.
3. Familiarity with SAP software.
4. Demonstrated understanding of financial and operational performance data required.
5. Ability to present technical and financial information to executive level staff required.
6. Experience in the use of six-sigma tool and the implementation of lean manufacturing principles.
7. Experience in leading a manufacturing operation through a successful lean transformation with demonstrated results in improved performance in all aspects of operations.
8. Solid influencing skills, particularly where there is no reporting relationship.
9. Demonstrated ability to develop and promote subordinates.
10. Ability to seamlessly work across a broad range of functions including marketing, engineering, product development and senior management.
