  •  Provide general directions and coordination’s for all cellar activities and programs. -The position is responsible for the supervision of all aspects related to the management of the cellar including personnel, sanitation, supplies, equipment, environmental and food safety, wine movement, cooperage and equipment, as required. In addition, the position will coordinate wine movements including bulk shipments plus management of the barrel program including aging, storage and purchasing. Must be familiar with all cellar equipment and its use, and have a strong working knowledge of all common cellar practices and protocols. Effectively determine workload and disseminate among crew to ensure processes are completed to meet quality, yield, efficiencies and budget targets. Must demonstrate sound judgment and ability to make purchasing and personnel decisions to operate within approved budget and communicate pro-actively when variance required. Evaluate processing equipment and new technologies, in coordination with winemaking, to assist winemaking in wine quality improvements and the preparation of capital expense budgets. Promptly investigating personnel issues and determining proper course of action to correct in compliance with Company policies and Federal and State regulations. Properly discerning which issues can be handled by management or whether Human Resources needs to be involved with investigation. Ensure all documented discipline is reviewed by Human Resources prior to delivery to personnel.  Key Outputs/Deliverables -Develop and manage cellar-operating budgets with a focus on cost reduction and control. Assist in identifying and developing capital request.-Build and inspire cellar team by providing clear purpose and accountabilities and regularly coach to ensure on going growth and development.-Maintain highly trained crew with emphasis on diversity and teamwork with focus on succession planning. Establish a cross training program to ensure a stable workforce.- Coordinate and manage all activities related to the inventory, preparation, working and storage of new and used barrels, develop and maintain written procedures for the management of the barrel inventory, manage barrel location, history and directory as well as ensure cooperage remains in sound condition.-Manage the Cellar crew anywhere from 9 to up to 25 employees.- Coordinate and manage all activities related to the receipt and shipment of wines.-Develop and manage a Cellar operating budgets and assist in developing capitol requests.-Maintain sanitary conditions in the cellar and assist winemaking in managing Brettanomyces.-Lead zero harm initiatives to provide a safe work environment complying with Diageo and OSHA safety rules and regulations.-Manage execution of red and white wine in storage, stabilization, blending, bottling prep through written work orders under direction from winemaker.-Manage red and white grape processing and fermentations under the guidance of the winemaker.-Work in conjunction with bottling, cellar and lab to meet production schedules and requirements.-Maintain records of wine movements and ensure data in WIPS is accurate and regularly updated (tanks and barrels). Experience BA/BS in area of Mechanical Technology and responsibility with 5 plus years of experience or training in cellar activities and supervision or emphasis in technical or production related disciplines; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Computer literate; intermediate level excel, basic level MS Word, MS Office experience, Kronos experience a plus.Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal and budgeting skills.Winemaking knowledge is essentialWorking knowledge of winery equipment and proceduresLaboratory skills, standard procedures for wine analysisKnowledge of governmental regulations regarding the wine industry
    (BATF) and manufacturing in general (OSHA)
