Primary Focus of Program Manager, Specialty Programs Role:
 
Provide management and leadership of new and existing Specialty Pharmacy initiatives focused on affordability improvements, clinical management programs, external partnership opportunities and cross-UHG integration efforts to improve drug and medical management of conditions that rely on specialty pharmaceuticals.  This position will represent UHPS in evaluating, managing and supporting opportunities that result in program development and integration efforts with the Clinically Integrated Network teams, Total Affordability Management, Optum and other affiliates.
 
Additionally, the position will define, plan and manage activities of Specialty Pharmacy initiatives within UnitedHealth Pharmaceutical Solutions (UHPS) to ensure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and funding parameters while also forecasting and monitoring program performance and results.
 
Major Responsibilities
  •  Develop and leverage relationships across UHG toward pursuit of a common Specialty Pharmacy agenda.
  • Build and direct UHPS and cross-functional project teams focused on delivery of key Specialty Pharmacy initiatives.
  • Responsible for overall planning, resource identification, risk management and quality review of assigned projects.
  • Track progress and provide timely written and verbal communication to department and senior management on project status.
  • Manage the expansion and enhancement of the Specialty Pharmacy, Pharmacy Benefit and Medical Benefit program rollout across the UHC, National Accounts, Key Accounts and Small business and affiliate Fully Insured and Self-Funded customer markets.
  • Responsible for the Specialty Program for Pharmacy Benefit Medications focusing on member identification, steerage initiatives, and Specialty Call Center management. This position will also provide support and direction for integrations of affiliates, provider/member steerage campaigns, measurement of member and provider experience, and supporting the field for questions
  •    Works closely with department managers and co-workers in order to ensure effective rollout or projects and programs are in compliance with state and federal mandates and regulations upon implementation. Will seek expert help or will research alternatives focusing on best practices achieved in similar projects. Responsible for solving all problems with arise.
  • Identifies and implements technological enhancements for department, often working in conjunction with a representative from the IS organization.
  • Identifies new opportunities for process improvement projects and data enhancement initiatives. Ensures that the appropriate cost / benefit and / or return on investment analysis are performed and results presented to management for review.
  • Designs and may be responsible for the communication of a new program or process to releant departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in business, healthcare or related field, masters preferred
  • 5+ years full life cycle project management experience within a complex, matrixed organization to include managing multiple projects/initiatives that vary in scope and duration
  • Moderate to advanced skills with Microsoft Suite to include: Excel (MACROS & Pivot Tables, formulas), Word, Access, Visio, Powerpoint and MS Project
  • Prior project management experience within a clinical, pharmaceutical or managed care environment strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships; proven collaboration and influencing skills with both internal and external organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, organize and prioritize work and continue to monitor and make changes to work as the project needs dictated
  • Demonstrated ability to work in new territory and  willingness to experiment, invite and explore the potential in new ideas while understanding the risk to the organization
