Description Job Summary: This job is responsible for the supervision and coordination of all daily operations of the department.  This includes supervising, organizing, scheduling, coordinating and assisting department personnel in performing all drug distribution, preparation and clinical activities of the department.  The manager is expected to apply solid principles of leadership, human relations and continuous quality improvement in the overall management, coordination, supervision, development and refinement of inpatient pharmaceutical care. Essential Duties:
  • Plans, organizes and supervises all daily operations of the inpatient pharmacy.
  • Directs, supervises and evaluates the activities of clinical pharmacy personnel in the performance of department responsibilities.
  • Serves as the primary department liaison to other departments in the hospital in problem-solving drug distribution and clinical problems and ensuring that these departments receive appropriate and efficient pharmaceutical service.
  • Initiates, develops, obtains approval for and carries out policies and procedures pertaining to administrative and professional policies of the department consistent with those of the Director and hospital administration.
  • Actively participates in departmental and hospital committees as assigned by the department Director.
  • Assists the Director and Regional Manager of Information, Quality and Technology in the preparation of the departmental budget and monthly financial monitoring of department performance and productivity.
  • Participates in departmental strategic planning activities with department management and staff, defining yearly goals, objectives and appropriate time-lines for accomplishment.
  • Works with department managers and staff to continuously look for ways to improve pharmaceutical care provided to patients while reducing departmental and patient costs.
  • Uses effective leadership skills in planning, implementing, teaching, and evaluating department programs and services.
  • Ensures that the department is providing the highest quality pharmaceutical care through implementation, supervision, and evaluation of department quality assurance programs.
  • Functions as a staff pharmacist and/or technician as appropriate and as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Maintains and promotes the concept of pharmaceutical care in all aspects of department service and ensures that the highest quality of customer service is provided.
Requirements Education:
  • BS degree in Pharmacy.
  • MS degree and/or Pharm D. degree preferred. 
  • Preferred graduate from an ASHP-accredited hospital residency.
Experience:
  • Five years of supervisory or management work experience in a health system pharmacy
  • If experience is not in a health system pharmacy, the experience requirement is ten years.
License/Certification:
  • Licensure as a registered pharmacist or technician and preceptor by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy 
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Membership in the ASHP, ASCP, WSSHP, APHA, and other/or professional memberships is preferred
