Description OVERVIEW:
Responsible for generation of new inland marine business and renewal production for a number of assigned agents. Underwrite inland marine business through direct contact with select agencies. Assist Inland Marine Territory Manager with managing the book of business to represent targeted inland marine classes of business. Review inland marine binders, applications, renewals, and endorsements to determine acceptance, rejection, or coverage modification in accordance with company inland marine underwriting guidelines. Develop proper account pricing based on established company standards for inland marine business. Handle renewal accounts as outlined within individual authority levels.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Review complex new business, renewals, endorsements, and quote requests to determine acceptability using established company guidelines and material.

2. Review and analyze agency performance based on production results, loss ratio (profitability) results, hit ratio, declination ratio, and other measures and manage the results as part of the underwriting team.

3. Establish line limits, negotiate, and place reinsurance when required.

4. May participate in agent educational meetings.

5. New Business Production Responsibility as outlined in annual goals

6. Review blanket excess coverages in compliance with established company procedures.

7. On specialized risks, determine proper company pricing.

8. When requested by underwriting supervisor, assist in the training of assistant and associate underwriters.

9. Research questionable risks using various company material and established technical expertise.

10. May perform audits of agencies having underwriting authority.

11. May perform other related duties and projects as assigned by supervisor/manager.

Requirements EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor degree or equivalent and a minimum of three years of commercial lines underwriting experience.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Good working knowledge of underwriting and pricing risks.
• Good working knowledge of company underwriting standards and philosophy
• Good working knowledge of all insurance coverages.
• Working knowledge of state statutes and regulations pertaining to line assignments.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use personal computer with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
• Capable of working as part of a team environment.
