BASIC FUNCTION:
1. Plans, directs and coordinates process development, new product introduction, and manufacturing engineering and supplier engineering.
2. Build and develop the manufacturing engineering teams through the selection, training and development of highly motivated and exceptional engineering talent, and the development of deep technical skills, engineering know-how and core competencies.
3. Develop and maintain a culture of excellence in quality, manufacturing, innovation, and continuous improvement to maintain long term competitiveness and drive future business growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinate and manage the career progression paths & development plans for all manufacturing engineers and techs. Ensure effective and balanced allocation of work and resources so that each engineer provides excellence in new product introduction and/or in production and manufacturing support.
2. Understands, educates and follows Division and Site quality systems for validation and process development/control that meets and adheres to FDA QSR, ISO 13485 and Corporate and Divisional procedures and instructions.
3. Develops and sustains a program to search, recruit and hire technically competent engineers into the manufacturing engineering teams.
4. Administers an engineering program of high technical competence and judgment and ensures sound technical engineering concepts are applied. Coordinates and directs the formulation of team goals and ensure delivery of exceptional performance to internal and external customers.
5. Work in the implementation of a manufacturing strategy which encompasses lean manufacturing, optimization of process/product flow, workplace ergonomics and facility layout design. Drive manufacturing engineering team in the continuous improvement initiatives in the areas of Process Yield, Inventory reduction, Cycle Time reduction, Product Cost, and Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
6. Implement programs, training and procedures that ensure the effective implementation of Design for Manufacturing/Assembly/Service and validation of manufacturing processes and equipment to support business growth, cost and capacity needs.
7. Identify, investigate and implement a pipeline of new and advanced manufacturing process and automation technologies and methods, and develop competencies which will enable new and disruptive product designs, enable radical cost reduction, maintain competitive advantage in manufacturing and create new market and growth opportunities.
8. Ensure that monthly departmental and project budgets are adhered to. Monitor and review of monthly departmental budgets and compilation of overall monthly capital and expense spend projections.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Has direct leadership and supervisory responsibility for operations manufacturing engineers and technicians. Will be required to conduct annual performance appraisals and compile individual training and development plans.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED:
Minimum of 7 years related medical device experience in a high technology research & development and/or manufacturing environment.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED/PREFERRED:
Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology Degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Production or Manufacturing engineering.
Good computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, data base).
