Liberty Mutual Agency Market's Controllers division is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor who is team oriented, high energy and innovative.

The position will have Supervisory responsibilities within the Agency Markets Controller's unit on the General Ledger team.  You will be responsible for the planning and direction of departmental activities, including maintenance of ledger accounts and production of financial statements. Requires advanced technical accounting knowledge, and oversees the efficient operation of operating programs and systems.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and reviews complex standard and ad hoc reports (monthly, quarterly and annual book close; which includes account reconciliations, control checks, manual journal entries, preparation of financial statements) utilizing a broad knowledge of accounting principles. Presents findings/recommendations to Management
  • Supervises assigned staff to ensure adherence to deadlines, policies, etc..   Responsible for establishing goals and objectives to be achieved, as well as preparation of performance reviews.  Provides training and developmental opportunities to motivate staff.  Provides hiring recommendations on candidates, and provides input to compensation recommendations for current staff.
  • Monitors daily operations of group to ensure monthly deadlines are met.
  • Reviews financial reports for accuracy and ensure timely preparation.  Prepare analysis and be prepared to provide explanations for unusual and/or inconsistent trends.
  • Reviews procedures and documentation.  Suggests process improvement initiatives and provides solutions to enhance current processes.
  • Utilizes advanced technical accounting knowledge in order to independently prepare complex accounting assignments and analysis.  Provides answers to complex accounting questions through proper research of accounting literature.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external groups.
  • Maintains accounting systems to ensure accurate and timely operation.  Keeps up to date on technology and attends conferences to ensure that technology is being utilized efficiently (e.g. CAMRA, FA system, General Ledger, Essbase, etc.)



Requirements
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • 5+ years of Accounting experience in a Corporate environment with increasing responsibility and growth
  • 2+ years of experience managing a sophisticated accounting team highly desired
  • Previous experience leading projects with varying degrees of complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute strategically by identifying, developing and implementing leading process improvement and the ability to manage change
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, FASB pronouncements, and technical accounting with desire to increase proficiency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong experience with Accounting applications, including ERP systems, as well as Excel/Access.
  • CPA or MBA Highly Desired
  • Bachelors in Accounting Required
  • Public Accounting experience highly desired
