Description Fashion Bug, a division of Charming Shoppes, Inc., is undergoing an exciting transformation.  If you have strong allocation, replenishment or planning experience in the retail apparel industry, and are ready to move into a high-visibility role, joining the Fashion Bug team as a Planner in the Dresses and Swimwear Category, could be a great career move for you.   Working closely with the Buyer, the selected Planner will drive the lingerie and intimates category to achieve significant growth in dollars and percentage of overall revenue by providing  financial leadership and guidance in developing and executing product strategy. 
Positioning
Business Line Planning
  • Partners with Buyer to develop strategic vision of department.
  • Collaborates with Buyer to architect balanced line plan that integrates fashion, lifestyle, fit, pricing pyramids and tiering strategies - and achieves financial objectives.
  • Identifies opportunities or disparities using trend information.
  • Continually updates line plan to react to current business trends; ensures the integration of fashion newness, develops upside strategies; prepares contingency plans to drive sales and profit objectives.
Detailed Financial Planning
  • Formulates and revises a sound detailed financial plan for each classification of merchandise by synthesizing information from diverse sources, such as recent and historical performance, industry trends, merchandising forecasts, production issues, etc.
  • Ensures plans have accurate foundation to achieve target financial objectives.
  • Demonstrates a clear grasp of the relationship among issues.
  • Identifies and reacts to opportunities to increase sales, improve margin, optimize inventories, and decrease markdowns.
  • Provides Merchandising with "what-if" proposals to quantify upside opportunity and downside risk. Anticipates possible obstacles and works with Merchandising to establish contingency plans.
  • Recommends pricing and promotional strategies that optimize margin, freshness, and exit strategies, and that balance appropriately with the entire business pricing approach.
  • Ensures broad business strategies and objectives are translated into specific "local" objectives and plans. This includes top item penetration, tiering and hot zone assortment planning, fashion and pricing pyramids, etc.
  • Presents financial information in a concise, clear, and confident manner. Articulates key issues and adapts presentation style to suit needs of audience. Readily communicates important information despite challenges. Makes a compelling and persuasive case for proposals.

Reporting and Analysis
  • Synthesizes large, complex data sets into major points and issues that readily facilitate decision-making.
  • Provides reporting and analysis to highlight important trends or to support multi-department analysis.
  • Continually examines product successes and failures to extract key lessons.

  • Partners with Allocation to ensure distribution methodologies and special strategies (e.g. tiered distribution) are uniformly understood and executed.

Requirements
  • 5+ years in apparel retail, preferably as a merchandise planner, allocator, financial analyst, or buyer with a specialty retailer.
  • Bachelors degree in finance, economics, or related field. MBA a plus.
  • Strong systems skills with experience in managing and reporting data in such environments as E3, Arthur Planning, Data Warehouse, Excel, Access, etc.
  • Strong personal presence, experience as an effective communicator at all levels of an organization are a must.
