The City of Birmingham is seeking energetic, organized and dependable applicants for part-time Dispatcher positions within the City’s Police Department. Under supervision of the Commander, dispatches police, fire, emergency and medical units; answers incoming 911 lines, other emergency calls, and police non-emergency lines; operates computer-aided dispatch equipment; and monitors and coordinates police, fire, emergency and medical unit activity and assignments via radio frequencies.
The PT Dispatcher is expected to provide citizens with quick, efficient and courteous service in person and by telephone and will also be responsible for maintaining daily shift reports and 911 logs. Duties will also include operation of CLEMIS and the Law Enforcement Information Network, and completion of other related duties as directed.
The primary goal of the Birmingham Police Department is protection of life and property, prevention of crime and apprehension of criminal perpetrators. The Department strives to provide the best possible police service to the residents of the City and to those who work, travel, and shop here. The Department is divided into Patrol/Services and Investigative Divisions.
