PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Reporting to the GM of the Pet Business Unit, this Segment GM is responsible as the single point of contact for developing
and deploying strategies, tactics and tradeoffs to achieve the annual operating plan and long range plan growth agenda
within the Pet Specialty channel across both channel exclusive and widely distributed grocery/mass brands.
Focus: As GM, serves as single point of contact internally and with our sales division externally for the channel across all brands
Strategy: Consistent with the Pet BU strategic direction, develops and deploys growth and financial strategies to achieve Pet BU results within the channel.
Enterprise results: Responsible for the total channel P&L and all tradeoffs within the P&L to achieve results consistent with agreed to BU and brand strategies.
PRIMARY CONTRIBUTIONS, MAJOR FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Leadership: Leads cross functional team as single point-of-contact to internally and externally for the Pet Specialty channel toward achieving all financial and share objectives for Nature’s Recipe and our range of widely distributed brands consistent with agreed-to brand objectives. As GM, leads personnel through a combination of both dedicated, direct line management as well as dotted line, matrix management.
Enterprise financial results: Full P&L responsibility across brands sold within the Pet Specialty Channel. Total channel Net Sales in fiscal 13 of $157MM representing 8% of BU net sales, and 16% of marketing spending. This strategic investment area is targeted to grow substantially above category and in F16 >$210MM in net sales. Integrates inorganic growth (M&A) into portfolio as needed (people, processes, systems)
Current year, next year, and three-year financial, consumer and customer plan: Develops annual and strategic plans consistent with Pet BU strategic direction.
Channel exclusive vs. widely distributed brand management. Directly manages the brand equity for Channel Exclusive brands and works collaboratively to understand WDB brand objectives. Once AOP is agreed, responsible for deploying programs and propositions for WDB consistent with Pet BU and Segment Director objectives.
Innovation: Responsible for guiding innovation and directing customization into the channel consistent with channel strategy and financial payback hurdles
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES/FUNCTIONAL EXPERTISE:
This GM role requires substantive competency across Marketing and Sales, with understanding of other key support functions (e.g. Finance, Operations, R&D). Ultimately, this person will act as the GM with total P&L responsibility across channel specific brands (that they own/drive) and ones that they collaborate on and deploy as single point of contact:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
10-15 years of CPG business leadership experience across multiple functions with emphasis on General Management with Marketing and/or Sales roles of increasing scope and responsibility.
Experience in premium, natural and functional benefit CPG categories is a plus
Experience in channels or categories where nimble decision making and speed to market were vital to success
Demonstrated success in direct and indirectly driving business and brand and channel results including substantive examples of brand/channel development, creative development, Innovation, national and/or customer specific marketing tactics. Must be able to point out in-market products/programs/channel successes “industry” would see as broad success.
Development and delivery for total P&L
Development/deployment of business, segment, channel, and brand strategies.
Management of all contact points and associated agencies associated with those. Includes: Advertising, Consumer Promotion, Shopper Marketing, Digital, Media Planning/Buying, Public Relations and Packaging Design.
High levels of learning agility. Evidence of stepping into new situations and quickly coming up to speed and making a positive difference
