Senior Regional Marketing Manager

Purpose:

Success in this role will come from your ability to:

This position is responsible for the development and delivery of marketing plans and strategies designed to grow revenues for the entire North American region, as well as serve as a marketing functional expert and leader.  The role is responsible for developing, enabling and delivering our growth strategies by applying marketing disciplines, as well as marketing and management operating rhythms.  The role is also charged with building core marketing operations and driving growth initiatives for North America that will have significant direct impact on generating revenue and supporting the business to sell more profitably in the short, medium and longer term. 

 

The role purpose also includes consultation, collaboration and engagement with key internal and external stakeholders to create value for Club Assist with the efficient and effective development and implementation of marketing strategies, programs and tactics in North America to achieve increased profitable sales, market share and price premiums. 

 

Further the role purpose will develop, manage and leverage key account relationships with senior Auto Club and Industry executives to grow and manage Club Assist’s market position.

 

Finally, the role is also responsible for the leadership, engagement, development, coaching, mentoring and management of our people and their growth.

Job Requirements

Duties and Primary Responsibilities:

Business Planning

  • Facilitate the North American business planning structure & process.  Lead and coordinate business analytics for strategic planning sessions.  Participate as an integral and active member in the strategic planning process of the company and specifically the North American region.
  • Provide consumer, club, competitor, market, environment, performance and determinants of strategic marketing options insights, analysis and fact packs to support the business with annual and 3 year business planning process.
  • Identify ‘emerging market trends’ and ‘must wins’ to support the annual and 3 year business planning process.
  • Deliver North American marketing programs articulated in annual and 3 year business plans.  Assess business and marketing needs and consequently develop strategic business plans.
  • Lead and deliver regular strategic market assessments to determine, socialise and provide actionable insights so we know what drivers growth in our markets and our customers’ markets.  Ensure we consistently recognise meaningful and emerging trends before our competitors and substitutes do.
  • Lead and deliver regular competitive positioning assessments to determine, socialise and provide actionable insights and ensure we can articulate what differentiates our products / services from those of competitors and communicate these in our marketing and customer touch points.
  • Ensure we rebalance our marketing investment across our portfolio of brands / products / market opportunities to focus on those with the highest potential for growth.
  • Ensure our marketing approach is tailored to the specific market opportunities and/or risks and our value proposition strategy is clearly communicated through the organisation and is actionable.
  • Ensure we possess a holistic understanding of our customers’ needs and the relative priority, importance and weight of these needs across the entire purchase and relationship cycles.

 

Marketing Strategy, Planning and Execution

  • North American marketing strategy planning, development, implementation & management.
  • Ensure our marketing planning is created based on a clear understanding of the highest-impact customer priorities and is highly adaptable to changing market dynamics.
  • Build and execute the North American marketing plan (across all categories) – rolling 90 day, annual and 3 year marketing plans.
  • Develop, coordinate, guide, and maintain marketing’s strategic and operational plans in support of the overall mission and business strategy.
  • Develop, implement and facilitate marketing plans for all North American, consistent with Club Assist 3-1 marketing framework and the Operations Business Plan.
  • Development and successful implementation of product, brand and communication strategies for Club Assist client brands across North America.
  • Successfully understand (with empirical data) the value relationship (price-for-performance) in the Club and Consumer markets.  With this understanding, successfully implement programs to increase Club and Member Value and market-share.
  • Work with senior marketing and business leaders (as well as their teams) to develop business and marketing analytics, including but not limited to North American Club, Consumer, Competitor, Market, Environmental, Performance & Determinants of Strategic Marketing Options analysis, understanding, insights, options and implications management.
  • Provide insight leadership on competitive positioning as well as develop action plans to differentiate product offerings.  Drive comprehensive analytical support including pulling data, preparing analyses, interpreting data, making and communicating strategic recommendations relevant to the North American Strategic Marketing and Operational Marketing portfolio.
  • Work strategically and partner with internal and external business leaders to develop new markets and industry opportunities, as well as manage issues and mitigate risks within the region. 
  • Manage and grow relationships with external and internal business units and North American Clubs (and National Federations) as well as manage community, media and other market relations.
  • Research market data and information resources available to develop best in class data & delivery systems that best meet the needs of the business.
  • Lead the development and implementation of data analysis and management of market information to segment and understand the key buying reasons of Clubs and Consumers as well as the weight and priority of each key buying reason.
  • Lead the development & implementation of below-the-line, above-the-line, digital, lifecycle and timed-communications, marketing public relations and events to better understand, segment and target prospects and members.
  • Successfully manage the quality of all marketing project components, including but not limited to strategic partnerships, target audience, offers, media mix, promotions, sales support (customer and staff facing), pricing, channel management, and call to action (and channel) for all online, below & above the line activity.
  • Ensure we create measurably impactful marketing communications and use only the most effective channels, media, offers, CTAs given the target market.  Ensuring these are tracked and measured as well as ROIs completed.
  • Ensure we allocate our media spending based on a clear understanding of the return on investment from each of the different elements in the mix.
  • Ensure we use data (not instinct) to drive our merchandising and promotions decisions: ensuring the programs we pursue maximise profit in the long term.
  • Ensure that for all North American demand generation activity the Road-to-Purchase is clear and well substantiated with objective data, including but not limited to: broad market considerations, objectives, target audience, required actions, barriers (emotional and literal), rewards  / benefits, tone and style, when and where as well as key insights.
  • Ensure we price such that we know that we are achieving fair and reasonable good-profits and value (price-for-performance).

 

Leads, Sales and Financials

  • Work closely with key operations management to generate leads and drive sales against agreed plans, as well as prior to the commencement of the operating period forecast the required investment and demand generation programs with at least 3 contingencies to meet or exceed plan.
  • Joint responsibility for the achievement of regional revenue and marketing EBIT controllable.
  • Support the North American business to sell more profitably in the short, medium & longer term, with at least 3 contingencies. Initiate marketing programs to increase baseline sales.  Initiate commitment to convert identified leads to generate commercial and marketing opportunities for Batteries, Glass and other product categories in the region.
  • Ensure we meaningfully and measurably contribute to the ability of our sales organisation to speed time to close and serve our customers and consumers effectively and efficiently.
  • Create, monitor and analyses marketing and business metrics to assess marketing program effectiveness including but not limited to commercial marketing measures as well as reach, action, conversion and engagement.
  • Determine pertinent information required by management in making effective decisions.  Ensure that the gathering, processing, distribution and use of this information will occur in a timely, accurate and cost effective manner.
  • Develop, manage, and effectively utilize existing marketing performance quantitative analysis tools.

 

Marketing Projects & Initiatives

  • Direct, lead, participate, manage, contribute, monitor and/or control marketing programs, project initiatives and/or tactics as required by the business, and as directed.

 

Marketing Leadership, Management & Engagement

  • Lead and manage the North American marketing function.

  • Effective leadership and development of the North American Marketing team to achieve agreed business objectives.
  • Develop and lead current marketing strategies and translate market input and business needs directly into specific operating goals and deliverables.
  • Ensure we know which programs, projects and processes marketing are responsible for leading versus supporting.
  • Relationship development and key account management of key marketing clients at Auto Clubs to maximize commercial opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the broader Club Assist marketing team.
  • In consultation with key stakeholders, manage the development of and adherence to company and departmental budgets.
  • Lead the effective internal marketing of the North American Marketing Department.
  • Effective representation of Club Assist in external environments.
  • Negotiate and manage all vendor contracts, soliciting involvement and participation of other management team members as appropriate.
  • Communicate marketing plans, policies, technology and emerging market trends throughout the organization, including management groups and professional staff.
  • Develop and maintain the annual operating and capital budgets for marketing operations consistent with established financial guidelines.
  • Responsible for monitoring marketing activities and costs related to the overall utilization of resources required to meet marketing operational and strategic requirements.
  • Measure effectively the ROI on all marketing investments, programs and activities by club, program, channel, product, sales, margin and media vehicles, as well as benchmarking relative to other territories and regions.
  • Carefully track and report an agreed set of metrics (different for various stakeholder groups) that clearly demonstrate marketing’s contribution to corporate goals.

 

Secondary Responsibilities

These are the responsibilities that the employee may contribute to but does not have full accountability for delivering.

  • Proactive assistance in the achievement of North American business performance targets, including sales and EBIT.
  • Lead initiatives targeted towards developing the communication approach to intranet, extranet, CA web site and Club websites, as well as digital capability.
  • Develop and manage promotions program infrastructure as required by the consumer, commercial and client marketing teams, including data analytics and related services.
  • Develop best practices and knowledge databases of marketing platforms.

 

Work Experience, Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • A tertiary qualification in Marketing or a closely related discipline / major is essential.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior marketing position in a fast paced commercial and professional business.
  • Strong leadership, management and people engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking and creative problem solving.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, as well as internal, external and 3rd party agencies/partners.
  • Experience working with a multi-channel brand(s) preferred.
  • Strong emotional intelligence skills.
