LPS Capital Markets provides financial institutions, in the United States and key markets world-wide, with the essential quality control, due diligence, data analytics and consulting and staffing services they require to confidently manage, sell, acquire or securitize portfolios of loans, leases and other assets. We are looking for experienced mortgage professionals for several Forensic Review/Quality Control Underwriter positions. The positions are long-term assignments located in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, GA. Successful candidates will be part of a dynamic team working with other mortgage professionals from across the United States in a post-closing environment.
Forensic/Quality Control Underwriters will be responsible for the in-depth review of mortgage loans in default, foreclosure, or REO status with a focus on the quality and validity of underwriting at origination with regard to buy-back/put-back possibilities. This is an opportunity where your extensive mortgage knowledge and experience, fraud training, and ability to find and research unusual aspects of a loan will be valued.
Responsibilities:
As our Underwriter, your primary responsibilities include the following duties:
- Perform a post-close forensic analysis of loan files for completeness and accuracy, analyzing credit documents, mortgage applications, credit history and income documents, title documents, appraisals and all other applicable required documents.
- Adhere to all client/lender policies and procedures, in addition to federal, state and/or municipal laws and regulations.
- Identify significant findings resulting from issues with originator’s underlying business practices, underwriting and/or fraud exposure.
- Actively support the decisions and knowledge of supervisors and colleagues by sharing information about the department, business unit, organization and the underwriting industry.
- Take an active role in identifying potential challenges within the underwriting process and/or department and make recommendations for changes to improve.
- Multi task between different analytical projects
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable underwriting guidelines by completing all underwriter training programs, learning any business unit policy and/or guidelines.
Requirements
Required skills:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree along with 7+ years in the residential mortgage industry and knowledge and familiarity with current mortgage and compliance laws and regulations. A strong commitment to customer service, delivering a quality product and effective leadership skills is essential. This motivated team player will possess the following skills, abilities and attributes:
· Minimum 5 years manual underwriting experience, with at least 3 years with a lender selling on the secondary market.
· Expert knowledge of FNMA policies, procedures, guidelines and risk assessment tools used to decision mortgage loans.
· High producer with attention to quality.
· Excellent time management skills.
· In-depth knowledge and understanding of transaction components that indicate a potential for fraud.
· Familiarity with DU, LP and other AUS systems.
· Experience in Forensic Underwriting, put-back/buy-back review or Quality Control.
· Strong analytical and project management skills to monitor and control the processing cycle with the ability to quickly understand complex problems and recommend solutions.
· In-depth understanding of Investor and Agency guidelines and requirements for all loan types.
· Self-motivated, creative, and able to work in a team environment while thinking independently and effectively sharing ideas.
· Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate internally as well as with clients.
· Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and database applications.
· Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and a commitment to achieving superior results.
· BS/BA required; comparable work experience will be considered.
