Mechanical Tech.
Ø Fits and assembles components according to assembly blueprints, manuals, engineering memos, sketches, and knowledge of machine construction to construct, rebuild, and repair machines and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
Ø Verifies conformance of parts to stock list and blueprints, using measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
Ø Lays out hole locations and drills and taps holes on parts for assembly.
Ø Aligns components for assembly, manually or with hoist, and bolts, screws, dowels, or rivets parts together, using hand tools, power tools, and rivet gun.
Ø Verifies alignment and tolerances of moving parts, using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators calipers, micrometers and other gauges.
Ø Tests the operation of assemblies by hand.
Ø Assembles, sets up, and operates machine to verify functioning, machine capabilities, and conformance to customer's specifications.
Ø May form and fasten piping, fixtures, and attachments required to service machine with air, water, and oil. May install wiring and electrical components to specifications.
Ø May work as member of team on limited part of fabrication process.
Ø May set up and operate metalworking machines such as Bridgeport mill, vertical and horizontal band saw.
