SUMMARY:
The Tool and Die Maker reports to the Engineering Maintenance department. The Tool and Die Maker designs, develops and constructs highly intricate tools, dies, jibs, fixtures, and gauges where accurate relationship, fitting and interchange ability of parts require extremely close tolerances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
*Devise special mechanisms to meet or obtain particular requirements; determine metal flow in dies, select allowances, perform difficult development work, make tool try-outs, diagnose and correct troubles, working independently toward ultimate objectives.
*Works from drawings, sketches, and instructions or from own conception.
*Reviews engineer drawings and recommend design changes as required.
*Visualize design, plan, and determine sequence of operations.
*Select materials, dimensional allowance for fits, tolerances, and material treatment methods.
*Perform machining operations requiring complicated and unusual set ups involving frequent improvising and adoption of tooling.
*Construct temporary fixtures, jigs; grind special purpose tools and improvise measuring devices to check components and assemblies.
*Perform critical hand and bench operations to construct and finish work involving polishing, fitting, timing and calibrating mechanisms.
*Set-up new or modified tooling and instruct machine operators on their use, care and operational methods.
*Ability to use various tools, equipment and materials of the trade.
*Must be able to operate CNC & wire EDM machines
*Supports production team and respond to requests.
*Maintain work area and equipment in a safe clean and orderly condition.
