WHERE IN THE WORLD IS DIEGO GARCIA?
DG21 LLC. provides base operating services for the U.S. Navy on the island of Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory. We have an excellent opportunity to work overseas supporting this base operation!
With beautiful beaches and seven degrees south of the equator, DG is located in the center of a vast expanse of tropical waters, far from inhabited land. Roughly 2,500 miles down from Bombay and approximately equidistant from Africa and Singapore.
DG21 LLC is a joint venture of First Support Services Inc., Day & Zimmerman Services, and W. S. Atkins Facilities Management Ltd. based on Diego Garcia, a U.S. Naval Support Facility and is in need of:
FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER, P.E.
Duties:
1. Performs engineering designs, specifications, studies and hazard analysis, consultation, planning, budget estimates in the field of Fire Protection Engineering in accordance with NFPA, UFC and other applicable guidelines within the DOD Fire Protection Engineering Criteria.
2. Serves as the subject matter expert in the field of Fire Protection Engineering. Evaluate adequacy of facility design and occupancy in accordance with applicable fire protection criteria and recommends changes as applicable.
3. Participates in special assignments and perform assessments related to fire protection engineering.
4. Performs design and specifications peer review and quality control of work done by other fire protection design engineers, approves and affixes PE stamp.
5. Provide fire protection engineering consultation services to the BOS Contractor, Navy personnel and other tenant commands.
6. Advise the Facility Management Director, Public Works personnel on all aspects of designs related to fire protection engineering.
Requirements
Basic Job Qualifications:
- Must have at least (5) years minimum experience in Fire Protection Engineering design of various Fire Protection Systems, Special Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm Systems.
- Must have knowledge and experience in building code analysis, life safety code, design of automatic detection and suppression systems, water supply analysis, and multi discipline review of design projects.
- Knowledge of Hydraulic Analysis for Sprinkler Systems software [HASS], Voltage Drop Calculations and Battery Calculations.
- Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
Position Specifications:
- Must hold a current U.S. Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in the discipline of Fire Protection Engineering from National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveys (NCEES)
- or hold a current U.S. Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering with current NICET Level IV Certification in Fire Protection and Fire Alarm Systems.
Education:
Must hold, at minimum, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering from a fully accredited college or university.
Experience:
Must have, at minimum, five (5) years experience in Fire Protection Engineering. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the NFPA & UFC 3-600-001 for Fire Protection Engineering for DoD Facilities.
