Job Description


The Wellness Associate assists in the implementation of wellness programming and delivery of wellness classes according to the specific needs/ programs of the campus. The Wellness Associate shall instruct classes, promote safety and health education, and support design and implementation of an all inclusive wellness program that addresses the components of physical fitness and health related to the geriatric community. The Wellness Associate shall operate the wellness program in accordance with company policies and procedures and compliance with federal, state and local regulations under the direction of the Wellness Director.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Represent the community in a positive manner while creating an environment that fosters respect and courtesy for members/residents and employees alike. Work within the community’s programs to promote safety and well-being of all members/residents and employees.
2. Uphold the community’s Mission Statement.
3. Maintain HIPAA standards and regard all medical or healthcare information pertaining to members/residents and employees as confidential.
4. Through prior experience and expertise, management recommendations, and feedback support and assist in the development of a schedule of classes focusing on the components of physical fitness and health. Help build classes based on the determined level, health and mobility of the members/residents in order for members/residents to gain in physical/mental health or to maintain current physical or mental status.
5. Responsible to set up on time and clean in a timely manner all areas utilized for wellness classes. Also maintains cleanliness of all areas designated as wellness spaces, including storage closets and offices, as well as any common areas where classes, speakers, or exercise will take or have taken place.
6. Ensure the safety and proper progression of members/residents participating in the wellness program offerings.
7. Conduct in person interviews with new members/residents to complete a health history, physician’s clearance, schedule a function assessment, and wellness center orientation.
8. Attain daily attendance in wellness classes in order to track participation of programming. Report this data to the Wellness Director.
9. Maintain fitness equipment to be in good working order and sanitary and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment as needed. Report any malfunctioning equipment to the maintenance department or to the vendor for needed repairs.
10. Educate class participants as to self-protection from infectious diseases and promote other safety precautions.
11. Assist members/residents in transferring or ambulating as necessary to participate in wellness programming.
12. Communicate with the Wellness Director, Administrator, or other staff, any changes in member/resident conditions or abnormal behavior.


Job Requirements

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Occasional travel may be required for training sessions, continuing education opportunities, emergency situations, and other company functions.
2. Responsible for knowledge of fire and safety procedures including those involving blood-borne pathogens.
3. Remain in proper attire at all times and maintain a high standard of appearance.
4. Maintain current certifications and acquire new certifications as opportunities arise through professional improvement workshops and conferences focused on current affairs in wellness, exercise, health sciences, and the senior services industry.
5. Interact well with marketing tours and prospective members, residents, and families.
6. Maintain excellent member/resident, family, and employee relations. Handle complaints and recommendations constructively.
7. Complete company assigned monthly training sessions via the Silverchair website.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Wellness Director.
9. Serve as a resource in Wellness Director’s absence and as necessary substitute teach Wellness Director’s classes and programs.
10. Occasionally, you will be required to operate a vehicle of either your own or company-owned for designated company purposes or facilitate resident/member needs and/or requests.
PREREQUISITES:
A. Education
- High school graduation or GED required.
- Four year college or university degree desired (preferably in Exercise Science or related field).
- Certifications in CPR, AED, and Group Exercise REQUIRED.
- Certifications from ACE, ACSM, AFAA, ASFA, NSCA or other nationally recognized and accredited fitness association preferred.
- Aquatic certification preferred.
B. Direct Previous Experience
- Group Exercise instructor experience required.
- Three years experience as a personal trainer desired.
- Three years of exercise or wellness experience with seniors desired.
- One to three years experience teaching aquatic based classes desired.
C. Skills:
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) plus the
willingness to learn other computer programs if required.
- Ability to work with minimal or close supervision.
- Must conduct all business with a professional manner and with a high level of
confidentiality.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as specified by the Company and by the Company’s automobile insurance carrier.
D. Abilities:
- Work indoors for the majority of the work day (fluorescent lights, HVAC
system, carpeted, concrete and tile flooring, normal exercise and pool facility
noise levels and temperatures).
- Climb up to two flights of stairs occasionally.
- Lift objects of 25 pounds or less over the head.
- Move objects of 40 pounds or less.
- Ability to work in time-sensitive or stressful situations.
- Sit in a chair / stand for extended periods.
- Respond to medical emergencies in all areas of the community as needed.
- Assist with member/resident evacuations.
