Hospital Laboratory Technician
Under general supervision of a Manager, Senior CLT Supervisor, or designee perform independently a wide variety of repetitive technical and non-technical procedures as limited by CLIA and the California state laws for unlicensed personnel, in the Microbiology division of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Primary responsibilities include analytical testing, quality control and preventive maintenance. Other responsibilities include, processing of primary specimens, media and reagent preparation, data entry and maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts as needed. On a daily basis, assess overall workload for any area that needs help and help coworkers without being reassigned by the supervisor.
The following are required: a minimum of 3 years recent experience and current knowledge, technical and practical experience in clinical Microbiology. Demonstrated working knowledge of current instrumentation: Centrifuges, Water Baths, Analytical Balance, Fume hood, Biological Safety Cabinet, and Incubators. Able to develop expertise in areas other than those listed. Must have knowledge of disease states, and able to troubleshoot and recognize problems with tests and instrumentation. Working knowledge of laboratory safety. Demonstrated consistent excellent interpersonal skills among all levels of personnel. Demonstrated consistent excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to customer service requirements. Able to work as a team member and maintain a positive humanistic attitude. Demonstrated consistent commitment to quality in all aspects of the operation and organization. Demonstrated ability to be proactive and cooperative in problem resolution. Must be able to learn and perform procedures accurately and efficiently according to written protocols.
The following are preferred: Knowledge of hospital information system (HIS/LIS) functions.
