Sherman Health is seeking Temporary RNs to work at our new hospital from November 30, 2009 through February 28, 2010. Patient Services orientation is required for all temporary RNs, and will take place from 8am-4pm, on November 30 through December 2.
Candidates should have the ability to work flexible schedules based upon patient and unit needs - and need to have at least 1 year of experience working in an acute care setting.
At the end of the contracted period, RNs will be eligible for hire
The Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process and critical thinking skills to direct and deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in a safe and proficient manner according to individual patient needs. Provides direct patient care based upon the standards set within Illinois Nurse Practice Act as well as organization specific polices and procedures. Provides patient care while ensuring patient safety and satisfaction. The Temporary Nurse is utilized on an "as needed" basis and does not work regularly scheduled shifts. Must have the ability to float to any unit where additional patient care help is needed.

JOB ACTIVITIES:
Monitors and coordinates the plan of care as evidenced by current and accurate documentation:
Perform individualized assessment of patient condition
Document updated plan of care in the electronic health record (EMR) as appropriate
Identify and evaluate patient discharge needs in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
Accurately document and communicate any change in patient condition to the appropriate member of a multidisciplinary team
Provides high quality and patient centered care
- Respond to patient requests and needs
- Round on patients and families regularly as per departmental policy
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team (including patient/family) regarding changes in Plan of Care
- Provide nursing care that meets regulatory standards for patient quality and safety
Supports peers and supervises ancillary staff through teamwork to ensure patient care needs are met in an efficient and effective manner.
- Delegate tasks to ancillary personnel in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act
Effectively communicates with multidisciplinary teams
- Works in a positive and cooperative manner with all team members
- Consistently Seeks out opportunities to help and assist other team members
- Consistent practice of SBAR (situation, background, assessment, request/recommendation) principles in communication
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to learn new systems
- Strong Customer Service Skills
- Multi-tasking, Prioritization, Flexibility
- Self directed
- RNs floating to areas other than Med/Surg, must complete specialty unit based competencies in addition to the general competencies
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associates Degree from an accredited Nursing Program
- Current Illinois Registered Nursing License
CERTIFICATION
- BCLS Certification (CPR)
- ACLS Certification for Critical Care Areas
- PALS Certification for those areas involved with pediatrics
- NRP Certification for Obstetrical areas
