Job Description

New Student Coordinator  

To assist students in transitioning to school life, assuring that housing is sufficient, assist in class scheduling, and make recommendation to students, and provide career-related advice. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.


 

Key Job Elements:

  1. Act as primary point of contact to newly enrolled students. Be an advocate for student well-being, and aid in the school adjustment progress. This Includes meeting with individual as well as small groups of students on an ongoing basis as well as maintaining quarterly office hours.

 

  1. Be primary advisor to new/incoming students concerning scheduling, attendance, and academic progress and curriculum issues. Maintain access to attendance files with notification and documentation in a timely fashion to assure best possible chance of student persistence.

 

  1. Inform and help new students access all available services. Apprise students of housing options, staying current with financial obligations, and direct students to Counseling when deemed necessary.

 

  1. Discuss student transition to school life with instructors.

 

  1. Work with Student Financial Services department to identify and prioritize high need students. Coordinate College Work Study with SFS by soliciting leads, explaining procedures, screening and referring students and maintaining employment records.

 

  1. Work with the Education Department to ease student transition during the registration process which includes creating and processing special and regular schedules and reporting to appropriate registration staff.

 

  1. Prepare weekly and quarterly production reports.

 

  1. Serve as back up on phones for Administrative Assistant.

 

  1. Other Duties as assigned

 


 
Job Requirements

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  1. Knowledge:
    a) Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Advising, or related field. Equivalent experience could be considered as substitute for education requirements.
    b) Two years experience career counseling or industry-related position, and at least one year experience in student advising or field-related environment


 

  1. Skills:
    a) Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including persuasive abilities, and the ability to build successful relationships with student populations.
    b) Exceptional customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills
    c) Strong computer and analytical skills.


 

  1. Abilities:
    a) Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
    b) Work effectively as either a leader or a team member to insure that departmental goals are met.
    c) Ability to understand student development issues in post-secondary education
    d) Ability to work independently and good time management skills


 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate professionally in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic means, move about the office or school, handle various types of media and equipment, and visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds unless otherwise specified in the job description.
