Product Manager

Job Description

Product Manager.  The position will be responsible for managing new and existing product lines to ensure that gross margin, sales and inventory turns meet company performance standards. 

 

The incumbent will assist in the development of marketing plans and promotional campaigns for new and existing products.  Additional responsibilities will include:

 

  • Manages existing product lines to ensure that gross margin, sales, inventory turns meet company performance standards. Including performing product line reviews, cost containment by sourcing and re-sourcing products and making recommendations on item and vendor status.
  • Develops new products and product lines to include sourcing, sales forecast, gross margin, initial orders quantities, product specifications and packaging. Reviews sales monthly for 1st year and provides guidance on inventory to purchasing dept for 1st year.
  • Maintaining the product family roadmap and overall market potential.
  • Initiates all sourcing of new products and re-sourcing of existing products to include providing minimum order quantities, product specifications, sample approval, packaging approval and all cost and pricing with Purchasing and Quality Depts.
  • Create and manage the vendor relationship and vendor programs.
  • Responsible for negotiating, documenting, and communicating vendor programs i.e. volume rebates, advertising allowances, cash terms, defectives allowances, freight terms, minimum order quantities, guaranteed sales, stock balancing, new warehouse discounts, product knowledge training, etc.
  • Develops product specifications to make sure the product and packaging meets the market requirements.
  • Compiles all competitive information and performs product cross references for new and existing product lines. Asseses market competition by comparing the company’s product to competitor’s products.
  • Manages and leads the effort in the reduction of discontinued and closeout merchandise.
  • Facilitates inventory turnover and product availability by working with Purchasing and Manufacturing in adjusting inventory levels and production schedules by providing inventory trend, seasonal and general market information.
  • Assist Marketing in product promotions, pricing strategies and product positioning; also assists in the brand management.
  • Provide product training for sales team.

For the continuing success of the company, it is essential that the applicant appropriately display a strong sense of responsibility, urgency and integrity in their previous professional history.  The additional qualifications are needed for a successful candidate:

 

  • Experience in sourcing parts, supplies and equipment for the plumbing or HVAC industry is a must
  • Must have broad knowledge of parts, supplies and equipment vendors serving the plumbing or HVAC industry
  • Must possess good negotiating skills
  • Product management experience preferred but not required
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel user
  • Microsoft Access user a definite plus
  • Must be creative and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • A commitment to work safety and positive problem resolution
