Job Description
Academic Advisor
The Art Institute of Austin is currently identifying qualified candidates for the position of Academic Advisor. This position requires some Saturday hours.
Summary: Responsible for sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and educational team members. Duties include a mix of instruction and student advising. The Academic Advisor works closely with the Educational Team in pursuit of persistence endeavors.
Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Key Job Elements:
- Maintain direct contact with student advisees. This Includes meeting with individual as well as small groups of students on an ongoing basis as well as maintaining quarterly office hours.
- Development of advising action plans: implement and monitor. Maintain Student Profile information including parent information, health issues, financial, academic progress, personal problems, language barriers and employment issues.
- Advise students concerning scheduling, attendance, and academic progress and curriculum issues. Maintain access to attendance files with notification and documentation in a timely fashion.
- Inform and help students access all available services. Apprise students of housing options, staying current with financial obligations, and direct students to Counseling when deemed necessary.
- Discuss student progress with instructors.
- Monitor grades and question weak performance areas and act as bridge between student and advisor.
- Work with the Education Department to ease student transition during the registration process which includes creating and processing special and regular schedules and reporting to appropriate registration staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Knowledge:
a) Bachelor’s degree in Education or similar field or equivalent experience.
b) One to three years experience working in an academic advising role in a field relevant to School’s programs, preferably in a post secondary institution.
- Skills:
a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
b) Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and student populations.
c) Exceptional customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills.
d) Strong computer and analytical skills.
- Abilities:
a) Ability to interact effectively as either a leader or as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
b) Ability to listen to customers (e.g. staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
c) Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities.
d) Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.

Library Director
The Art Institute of Austin is currently identifying qualified candidates for the position of Library Director. This position requires some Saturdays.
Summary: The Director of Library is responsible for planning, implementation, management and evaluation of all library services. Will handle issues ranging from strategic Planning and Budgeting to collection development and reference and instructional services. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Key Job Elements:
- Prepare annual library operating and capital budgets.
- Write and submit various reports to campus community as well as regional, national and programmatic accreditations as needed.
- Collaborate with the library committee, faculty, department heads, and other members of the campus community to ensure that library collections meet user needs.
- Acquire new materials in all formats consistent with overall institutional strategic goals, the library’s collection development policy, and annual budget allocations.
- Review existing collections for continued curriculum relevance.
- Develop, supervise and provide library services that may include circulation, interlibrary loan, reference, information literacy activities, and campus community outreach.
- Write and update library policy and procedure documents, in close consultation with Academic Affairs.
- Oversee library technology, including procurement and maintenance of hardware, software and AV equipment.
- Select, train, supervise and evaluate library service personnel.
- Attend meetings and workshops, and seek additional opportunities for professional development. Other Duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge:
a) Master’s Degree in Library, Information Science, or related from an ALA accredited school.
b) At least 7 to 10 years experience working in a library in a post-secondary institution.
c) Held positions of increasingly responsible experience in the industry.
d) Knowledge of subjects usually taught at a post-secondary institution
e) Knowledge of integrated library systems, OCLC, MARC records and current technologies
- Skills:
a) Fiscal and personnel management expertise.
b) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
c) Strong interpersonal skills with both peer and subordinate personnel.
d) Superior organizational skills
- Abilities:
a) Work effectively as either a leader or team member to insure that departmental goals are met.
b) Ability to develop and coordinate collection processes.
c) Budget development.
d) Selection and training.
e) Ability to frequently lift 10 to 15 pounds.
