Description In this diverse role, the Accounting Assistant will provide support to the Accounting and Finance team in a variety of ways.  Reporting to the Accounting and Admin Manager, a significant part of this role will be providing support for Virent’s accounts payable process which will include dealing with vendors via phone and email. Obtain invoice payment authorization sign-off. Code invoice documents with proper GL and department accounts. Batch Invoices and input into accounting system.  In addition, this person will be responsible for preparation of month-end journal entries, schedules and reports.  Other responsibilities will be government billings, fixed asset inventories and maintaining accurate records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting support for the company under direction of the Accounting & Administrative Services Manager
  • Assist with payroll
  • Accounts payable
  • Inventory management
  • Enter Purchase Orders in Peachtree
  • Maintain fixed assets
  • Purchasing
  • Maintain adequate office supply inventory
  • Maintaining organized Purchase Order directory
  • Follow up on back orders
  • Receiving
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Education - Bachelors Degree in accounting  or equivalent experience
  • Experience - 2-4 years

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
 

  • Knowledge of accounting systems, knowledge of Peachtree preferred, but not required.  Proficient in Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Small Business.
  • Self-starter with willingness to help the company succeed
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and problems solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and follow procedures w/minimal oversight.
  • Able to work creatively in team environment and adopt hands-on focus.
  • Able to accept responsibility and follow through on tasks to completion.
  • Capable of effective oral and written communication.
  • High integrity and strong work ethic.
  • Self-starter with willingness to learn & expand expertise base.
