Description Web Hosting Technical Support Representative

Provide technical support via phone and e-mail (through a home-grown trouble ticketing system) to external clients/web hosting customers (there are about 30k end-users).

Web hosting background or technical knowledge of a web hosting environment is essential. Candidate should know how a web server works (but he/she doesn’t have to know how to build it). Technical skills desired are FTP, DNS, E-mail (on the back-end, could be familiar with Qmail, Outlook, Entourage, MAC Mail, Thunderbird, etc.). Basic PC knowledge, basic MAC knowledge, and basic internet knowledge are required. Will also have to resolve some non-technical issues like billing, etc.

Interest in web programming languages like PHP, PERL, LAMP, Linux, Apache, MySQL, etc. is a plus.

Requirements

Candidate needs to understand and communicate that DNS (Domain Name System) allows the internet to determine where to send a user when they enter a domain name. DNS provides a path from a domain name to an IP address. In essence, it provides the path to the servers that are hosting the website.
