Designs relational databases following industry best practice. Develops strategies for data warehouse implementation following industry best practice (Inmon or Kimball). Evaluate new data sources to assess quality and determine integration approach.
Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalent experience. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the data warehouse concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist. Has the ability to design comprehensive and creative solutions to complex and diverse business requirements. Typically reports to a manager, head of a unit/department or lead architect. - Conduct requirements gathering and design sessions with customers.
- Works with analysts to establish clearly define business requirements that follow a business process model.
- Works with data suppliers to establish input and interface specifications.
- Perform data analysis for source system data.
- Create conceptual, logical and physical models for healthcare data warehouse implementations.
- Design and manage data models in data modeling product.
- Develop third normal form and dimensional models that adhere to data warehouse best practices.
- Design time variant models that support both point in time (historical) and current state analysis.
- Generate DDL from model for RDBMS (Teradata, Oracle).
- Develop Source to Target Mappings from data models as data integration (ETL) specifications.
- Provides professional documentation of data architecture.
Qualifications: 5 years experience as data architect for multi-terabyte data warehouse projects (healthcare preferred). 5 years experience with ERwin Enterprise Data Modeler Suite. 5 years experience in logical data modeling - relational and dimensional. Understanding of data warehousing design and development best practices. Understanding of ETL design and development best practices. Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting and collaborating with developers, analysts, and business staff throughout the organization. Ability to express complex technical information in a user-friendly language and style; present information effectively in one-on-one, and small group settings, including executive management. Ability to communicate clearly in writing to document data requirements and translate into technical solutions. Understands the importance of maintaining the physical and technical security and privacy of protected health information (PHI).
