Job Description

The Logistics Development Engineer is a staff function responsible for the design, implementation and management of logistics networks, monitoring of routines, and control and reporting of daily operational activities at various Volvo Logistics Corporation (VLC) and customer locations. 

Flexible city - means position can be in Radford,VA or Greensboro,NC


  • Responsible for managing network design, implementation, and tactical traffic optimization projects for new and existing customers (across Inbound, Outbound and Packaging)
  • Responsible for the interpretation of analysis performed by Logistics Development Analysts, and communication of its implications to internal and external stakeholders
  • Initiate, develop, recommend and lead implementations of new logistics solutions and operational support for customers
  • Lead supply chain improvement initiatives
  • Manage the communication of transportation deviations, recommend solutions and manage through resolution
  • Provide internal and external stakeholders with statistics/KPI’s/indicator reports and support corrective action initiatives
  • Use the following main data sources to support reports and analysis: MS Office, Business Map Pro, Czar-Lite, Batch Mark, ATLAS, TIR, Teamplace
  • Interpret KPI’s for management communication to customer
  • Interface with LS operations, Logistics development, site support and purchasing to ensure demands and needs of the customer are met
  • Responsible for master data setup, control and management of associated databases
  • Responsible for ensuring that procedures in quality systems are followed
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the quality system

  • Establish and manage logistics design and implementation projects
  • Design and implement requested transportation through first run, when requested by the customer
  • Provide documentation (e.g. routing instructions, charge backs and debit memos) as requested by the customer
  • Support freight invoice coding and payment process
  • Support budget and reconciliation process
  • Solicit additional LS resources as required to solve and prevent logistics problems
  • Supervision of Logistics Development Analysts as needed

  • Bachelors Degree in Business or Logistics
  • 5 years logistics and/or materials experience preferred
  • Proven knowledge of logistics activities through work history


  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work effectively on multiple tasks in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Strong written, verbal, and communication skills
  • Strong cross-functional team player, with focus on customer service and quality
  • Demonstrated computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications is preferred
