Laboratory Technician - (Job Number: UNI00071)

Job Description 

The Laboratory Technician will perform a wide variety of tasks related to the collection and analysis of samples including but not limited to the maintenance of the automatic sampling equipment, sample preparation, and analysis of compliance and process control samples.  The incumbent will operate, maintain, and calibrate instruments and equipment for laboratory analysis as well as tabulate and perform summaries of laboratory data.  They will prepare and assist in the preparation of reports and maintain an inventory of lab supplies and chemicals. 

Job Requirements 

A CWEA Grade I Lab Tech certification and/or a minimum of 3 years experience in an analytical chemical laboratory performing chemical and biological analyses is required.  Practical knowledge of laboratory tasks, techniques, equipment and terminology used in environmental laboratories is necessary along with thorough knowledge of the basic principals and practices of chemical, physical and microbiological analysis of water, wastewater and process chemicals.  Must be familiar with EPA and California regulations and Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater methods.  The ability to make chemical solutions, perform standard chemical, mathematical and statistical calculations is essential as well as familiarity with Excel and the use of a Data Management System.
