Bachelor's degree in nursing
RN - registered nurse with clinical specialist certification, License/valid Texas permit and
4 years clinical experience

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Clinical Educator is responsible for assessing, planning and evaluating the educational activities for the assigned service and particpate in meeting the educational needs for patient care serivce in order to provide educational support to staff.

Specific Job Related Duties
Demonstrates skill as a clinical practitioner and serves as a role model for students in the laboratory setting.
.
Collaborates with nursing colleagues and other disciplines in the educational setting to provide appropriate learning experiences for students.

Fosters an environment that is conducive to learning and effectively uses teaching methodologies in teaching/learning settings.

Documents and evaluates student performance using approved course records and tools.

Facilitate integration and application of didactic content and concepts to selected laboratory experiences.

Facilitate student integration of nursing theory and the organizing framework of the School of Nursing into clinical practice.

Facilitate the application of students� current skills and knowledge to new and unfamiliar experiences.

Facilitate students� learning of clinical decision-making and critical thinking in simulation activities.

Guide students to demonstrate professional behavior at all times. Professional behavior includes accountability for own learning and respect for all individuals.

Immediately notify the Director of the Nursing Simulation Center of students who are not meeting performance expectations. In collaboration with Director of the Nursing Simulation Center and course coordinator, create a remediation plan for students in danger of failing laboratory and/or simulation activities.

Meet all UTMB compliance-training requirements within posted deadlines.

Preferred Skill/Competency
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in nursing, Clinical expertise or education in nursing, Must have a positive commitment to the nursing profession and the education of nursing students. Prior teaching experience preferred. Prefer the certifications acquired is in one of these fields: Pedi, OB, Psych, or Adult Health and Community.

This is a non-benefit bearing position working 19 hours or less per week.
