Assistant Director, Event Operations
Event & Conference Services
The Division of Administration and Finance is seeking an Assistant Director, Event Operations. The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee and manage Technical Operations, Event Setup Operations, student staffing for event management and crowd control, and the scheduling of Towson University (TU) medics, and security and ambulance vendors for all events that fall within the responsibility of Event & Conference Services (ECS) and TU Athletic sporting events. The thousands of events handled range from small meetings to the University’s Commencements.
Responsibilities: Include but not limited to overall responsibility for managing summer housing program, serving as Event Manager for assigned events, and supporting the booking and contracting of summer camps and conferences. Is also directly responsible for 6 staff, more than 80 students, and "if and when" employees. Weekend and evening hours as required by events.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years related staff and event management experience. Successful candidate needs a keen sense for detail, strong supervisory skills, ability to work under pressure, ability to suggest alternatives to clients, and knowledge of regulations regarding evacuation procedures. Must successfully pass Maryland DOT physical and drug screen to drive certain University vehicles and acquire certification for forklift operation. Experience with managing summer housing programs and student staff supervision a significant plus. A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
