Job Description

 Excellent Opportunity within a Prosperous, Growing Organization!

This role will provide third-level engineering support of a wide area network (WAN) consisting of over 70 networked locations across southeastern Michigan.  The role is highly technical with the addition of network analysis and design.  The team consists of three network Architects and each will handle a portion of the new projects and support duties.  The day to day will be different with a mix of small and large projects throughout the year.  This is a large enterprise network with a focus on extremely high availability and redundancy. Experience working in a large environment and balancing multiple priorities and third level support is required.  Candidates will be expected to contribute to the overall technical direction as well as lead technical teams on occasion.  This team evaluates and implements new technologies and tools.  Candidates are expected to bring best practices and diverse experience to the group.

 


Third level support for the following primary infrastructure components:

  • OSI Layer 1 - General Data Communications (GDC) - Spectracomm equipment (various models), GDC TMS Nodes, ADTran - CDU/DSUs, Ahead Xedge (Various models)
  • OSI Layer 2 - Nortel Platforms - BPS-2000, 5510, & 5520
  • OSI Layer 3 - Nortel Platforms - ARN, ASN, BCN, & 8600's
  • Juniper Netscreens
  • Lucent-QIP/DHCP/DNS
  • Applies advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or processes.
  • Utilizes IP packet capture tools to perform analysis of production issues as well as for solution development.
  • Responsible for the development of complex cost-effective inter-networking solutions.
  • Performs regular architecture reviews to maintain network standards relative to current software code levels, patches, policies, etc.
  • Provides knowledge transfer to other Network team members.
  • Participates with the after-hours on-call rotation schedule.
  • Researches and advises on existing and emerging technologies.
  • Directly responsible for the analysis of received business requirements toward development of very complex technical solutions.
  • Performs research and lab evaluations of industry leading "hard" & "soft" inter-networking tools.
  • Performs research and lab evaluations of inter-networking equipment in pursuit of technical solution recommendations while producing technical solution summaries.

 



Job Requirements

Must Have:
  • A combination of Nortel and Cisco experience at an architect level.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills.
  • Bachelors degree in business or information technology and/or demonstrated ability through work experience.
  • A solid understanding of QoS, Multicasting, VOIP and IP video solutions.
  • 7+ years of successful experience with proven demonstration of the above job description responsibilities in support of a multi-location enterprise wide area network.

Nice to have:
  • Direct hands-on experience with the above listed specialized solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with transport design, planning, and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience with the design, planning, and implementation of QoS, Multicasting, VOIP and IP video solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with the IP packet capture tools such as Network Physics, Ethereal, etc.
  • 10+ years of successful experience with proven demonstration of the above job description responsibilities in support of a multi-location enterprise wide area network.
  • Nortel Network Certified Architect (NCA) certification.
