Controller

My client, a growing billion dollar industry leader is searching for a Controller. This is a new position due to growth of the company.  If you have 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong cost accounting background, experience as a controller, assistant controller, or an accounting manager and are a take charge, ideas type individual this could be the next step in your career!

The Controller directs the financial efforts of the site, prepares financial analysis of its operations and explains its results.  They are a key member of the site’s Leadership Team.  They assist management in the identification, analysis, and implementation of operational excellence cost savings opportunities.  The Controller is responsible for the facilities financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports.  The position involves full responsibility and supervision over all mine accounting activities including general accounting, property accounting, cost accounting, budgeting and forecasting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement and enforce corporate and site control procedures designed to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.  Develop new safeguards as necessary.
• Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts (Operating and Capital) with explanations and support.
• Institute and maintain planning and control procedures (including cost accounting system) with analysis and variance reporting.
• Furnish timely internal operational and financial reports, and provide external reports as necessary.   Revise and update reports to maximize usefulness and effectiveness.
• Direct the performance of mine accounting personnel.  Provide training to keep the staff at the highest skill level to meet company needs and objectives.  
• Be the site coordinator for audit compliance on both internal and external audits.
• Drive audits to timely completion.
• Provide financial analysis and business development assistance to the Manager, the Leadership Team, VP-Manufacturing and VP-Controller.
• Actively participate on the Leadership Team to drive operational excellence activities and maximize mine performance.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with Accounting or related major.
• CPA and or CMA preferred.
• MBA desirable but not required.
• Cost Accounting
• Minimum of 7 years of cost accounting and progressive financial and management experience required.
• Experience in a financial control / consolidation / reporting role, with strong preference given to experience in large / sophisticated manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrated experience in implementing process and systems improvements a strong plus.
