Job Description:

The Research Technician will be performing microarray and massively-parallel sequencing assays, working within the Genomics Shared Facility. The Technician will be responsible for receiving and logging information about samples from investigators. The samples will be tested for quality using assays of nucleic acid quality and on occasions using real time PCR.

For microarray assays, the samples will be labeled using fluorophores and hybridized to the microarrays, following which they are washed and scanned. For massively-parallel sequencing, the samples will require fragmentation prior to library construction, usually using nebulisation techniques. Library construction involves ligation and PCR steps, followed by further quality assessment measures. The sequencing of these libraries uses standard Roche FLX or Illumina GAIIx protocols.
