ThyssenKrupp is building a $3.7 billion world class, state-of-the-art steel and stainless processing facility in Alabama. The facility is a cooperative effort between two ThyssenKrupp business segments, Steel and Stainless.

The project is actively seeking new ground floor team members, and is expected to begin operation in 2010, and when fully operational, will create 2,700 jobs, and will serve industries including automotive, packaging, construction, electrical and utility, in addition to serving manufacturers of appliances, precision machinery and engineered products.

The ThyssenKrupp Steel USA facility will produce carbon steel for high-value applications by manufactures in the U.S. and throughout North America.

ThyssenKrupp Steel is a global player holding leading positions worldwide. The segment is organized into the business units Steelmaking, Industry, Auto and Processing. ThyssenKrupp Steel accounts for around 20 percent of ThyssenKrupp's consolidated sales.

Job Description

ThyssenKrupp Steel USA is seeking a Customs Compliance Specialist to assist with ThyssenKrupp Steel's developing mill operations in Calvert, Alabama.

Our Lead Specialist, Customs Compliance will:
  • Define and implement internal processes and procedures to ensure compliance with US Customs regulations
  • Maintain organization’s compliance policy and monitor regulatory and legislative changes to ensure continued compliance
  • Develop and oversee system integration with CBP
  • Monitor documentation/information coordination to ensure accurate and timely filing with US Customs and other government agencies
  • Verify accuracy of transactional information, such as invoices and other cost relevant documents
  • Work with other departments to ensure corporate regulatory compliance of import/export functions
  • Perform regular procedural audits and establish any applicable countermeasures
  • Work closely with Logistics and Production Planning to ensure consistent product flow
  • Work with external service providers to establish Supply Chain solutions and partnerships including service levels agreements
  • Solve problems by considering courses of action within the framework of management goals and standard
  • Provide input and support within contract negotiations

Job Requirements

Our Lead Specialist, Customs Compliance will have or demonstrate:
  • Five to ten years in a Customs compliance role (preferably within a manufacturing environment) with experience in import/export process definition and execution.  

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, International Trade, or combination of education and related experience

  • Customs Broker licence preferred

  • Prior experience in a Customs compliance role, preferably within a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to define and execute import, export, and FTZ business processes

  • Working knowledge of CBP programs (i.e. C-TPAT, ISA)

  • Strong IT  skills and familiarity with CBP systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Proficiency in MS Office products

  • Customs Broker license

  • Steel industry experience preferred

  • SAP experience

  • FTZ operational experience

  • Experience with logistics and/or supply chain management

  • Experience in managing a team of individuals

  • An interest and ability to work at our site operations in Calvert, Alabama
