Requirements
We are recruiting a person who is “hands on" and can maintain the instruments in our smog chamber labs; has an established track record in successful grant writing; and is a leader in outdoor smog chamber research. This person should have a demonstrated background in atmospheric kinetics modeling, atmospheric chemical mechanism development, general air pollution, smog chamber measurements, instrumentation and maintenance, and student mentoring. Since an important aim of these chambers is to assess human health risks to different types of real atmospheres, a demonstrated familiarity with the tools used to measure different atmospheric toxicological endpoints is essential. Finally, this person should have the capacity to judge the quality and performance of ambient air quality monitoring operations conducted by other institutions as part of large scale research programs within the Department and to provide advice and guidance on improvements or modifications to yield more reliable and high-quality data.
Support for this position will come from extramural research grants that the applicant will be expected to secure. The requested initial appointment will be for five years. Applicants with a suitable background and Ph.D. in atmospheric chemistry or equivalent are encouraged to apply immediately.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
For consideration, please submit your application through UNC’s Human Resources jobseekers website jobs.unc.edu/1002092. Please submit a cover letter, detailed curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of at least five references. At least two of the suggested references must be from independent scholars who have not published with the applicant.
The Gillings School of Global Public Health is actively committed to diversity. We strongly encourage applications from women, minorities, and persons with disabilities. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
