Description Designs and constructs state-of-the-art electronic research instrumentation and real-time systems software in support of the research program in the Department of Chemistry. These systems may well involve the tight coupling of both analog and digital electronics. Provides support for existing research electronics systems including home-built systems employed with research groups. Repairs existing systems which fail and upgrades systems. Consults with faculty, staff, and students on unique engineering solutions to research problems they are confronting. Maintains effective relations with industry, national labs, other universities, and military facilities for access to and knowledge of capabilities beyond the university’s scope.

Requirements Bachelor’s degree in electronics or electrical engineering and two to five years relevant experience required. A master's degree with appropriate internships is acceptable. Relevant software experience includes: PC application and real-time embedded programming for custom research data acquisition systems in C and/or Java; RS232, USB, and Ethernet communication interface development; and PLD programming. Relevant hardware experience includes: digital instrumentation design on embedded and PC platforms; analog signal conditioning, low noise RF amplifiers, and filters; HV power supplies; and the use of CAD systems for electronic schematic layout and printed circuit board layout.
