Job Description

Director of Administrative and Financial Services

This position acts as the chief financial and administrative officer for the school. Provides advice and counsel to the President and other Executive Committee members regarding the financial impact of operating decisions. Provides leadership to supervisory personnel of the AFS department. Supports the decisions and utilizes the recommendations made by the Board of Trustees.

Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.


 

Key Job Elements:

  1. Establish and implement policies that will withstand corporate and outside agency audits, as well as establish and maintain operating procedures that guide the staff and lead supervisory personnel toward this end.

 

  1. Establish and manage the AFS organization, define job parameters, hire and train personnel, and lead all AFS supervisory personnel. Coordinate and communicate AFS activities with other school departments whenever appropriate. Review AFS activities in search of opportunities to improve daily operations, raise the motivational level of staff, and increase cost-efficiency.

 

  1. Monitor and control the school accounts receivable level to assure profitability maintained on all student accounts.

 

  1. Assure that school is in compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations and statutes. Serve as a member of the Executive Committee. Keep the school President informed of all AFS activities.

 

  1. Maintain a system of cash planning and management consistent with EDMC policy including the disbursement of financial aid funds.

 

  1. Assure all requested financial and student reports are prepared in a timely manner and develop short and long term planning objectives; prepare appropriate budgets to support the initiatives of the college.

 

  1. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Job Requirements

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  1. Knowledge:
    a) Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required with a Master’s degree preferred.
    b) Seven or more years of solid experience in financial management, preferably in a post-secondary institution.
    c) Three or more years of accounting or financial department supervisory experience.


 

  1. Skills:
    a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    b) Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and student populations.
    c) Superior organizational and problem resolution skills.
    d) Strong basic computer software (MS Office) skills as well as exposure to more concentrated financial software programs.


 

  1. Abilities:
    a) Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
    b) Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
    c) Ability to listen to customers (e.g. faculty, staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
    d) Ability to work without close supervision and to set one’s own priorities and work schedule.


 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate professionally in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic means, move about the office or school, handle various types of media and equipment, and visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds unless otherwise specified in the job description.
