HOURS: 

This is an overnight position. Friday - Tuesday, 11:00pm to 08:00am

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Residential Advisor/Independent Living Advisor provides safe, supportive and predictable environment in dormitory supervision of Job Corps trainees in their daily activities, monitoring their progress in attaining performance contract goals and objectives and utilizing behavior management and intentional and consistent Core Value driven practices.  Conducts dormitory operations in accordance to Center operating policy and procedures and in accordance with CSD Operating Procedures.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 1.      Assists students in adjusting to Center life by providing supervision, behavior modification and acting as a mentor.

2.      Ensures that students meet required schedule, waking on time and being on time for school or work assignment.

3.      Ensures that students are adequately prepared for the training day; students are dressed appropriately, etc.

4.      Adheres to all PRH, PAG, CDSS and CSDC policies and procedures, and the Center’s Operating Procedures.

5.      Practices and models Core Values, as well as, conducts groups teaching and clarifying Core Values for students, with case manager assistance.

6.      Provides daily supervision or assistance in monitoring students in personal hygiene, room/chore assignments, special recreation activities, cafeteria monitoring, transportation, and programmed activities.

7.      Provides informal counseling related to stress management, personal problems, emergency or home situations, etc., with students, and provides insight into responsible behavior and attitudes.

8.      Documents student’s records according to requirements of PRH; accesses and inputs all relevant student data, including but not limited to: attendance, performance, progress, discipline, etc. into the CIS.

9.      Prepares reports and forms and annotates logs to ensure accurate documentation of daily observations of student’s progress, performance, behavior and attitudes, staff breaks, emergency information, communication information, references to critical information contained in folders.

10.  Maintains bulletin boards in assigned dormitory with updated student and Center information.

11.  Serves as a channel of communication between management staff and students.

12.  Facilitates groups in life skills including budgeting, renter’s rights, completing a lease, completing chores, etc.

13.  Facilitates small group discussions in life skills, peer mediation, conflict resolution, etc.

14.  Teaches SST curriculum to students as defined by the PRH and the Center.

15.  Participates in ESP’s for students in assigned dormitory.

16.  Assesses the need for confidentiality balanced with the need to report situations on behalf of students to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

17.  Contacts family members for consent for pass system as warranted.

18.  Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, emotional trauma, etc.

19.  Provides CPR/First Aid as warranted.

20.  Meets individually a minimum of once each month with students on assigned dorm, documenting the meeting.

21.  Performs and documents regular perimeter checks of dorm and outside perimeter to ensure safety and security.

22.  Facilitates weekly dorm meetings which include accountability checks.

23.  Ensures all equipment and facilities are clean and maintained in accordance with Center, CSD and DOL standards.

24.  Creates a warm/welcoming atmosphere for students, including encouragement to personalize the living environment.

25.  Ensures student rooms and bulletin boards are maintained per Center, CSD and DOL standards without references to profanity, gang affiliation, drugs, alcohol, or inappropriate graffiti or sexually provocative or inappropriate material.

26.  Ensures assigned dormitory and its outdoor area are maintained in good repair, cleanliness and order.

27.  Ensures use of federal equipment (faxes, computers, etc.) is within guidelines establish per DOL CSD and  the Center

28.  Attends all training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled. Is CPR and First Aid Certifiable.

29.  Maintains a work environment of zero accident and injuries including no loss-time accidents.

30.  Ensures a work environment that provides an equal opportunity for all.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Minimum: Must have a High School diploma with a least one-year of experience in education or a similar field working with students. Model company Core Values.

 

Preferred: Possess a B.A. or B.S. Degree in a behavioral health field from an accredited college or university. One-year experience in education or a similar field

 

General Information: In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, candidate must be able to compose/write descriptive reports; use appropriate techniques to implement programmatic activities; verbally direct individuals and groups; remedy  dysfunctional behavior; intervene with students in crisis with aggression control/safe physical management restraint techniques; successfully complete mandated training courses.

 

Knowledge Required: Knowledge of methods needed to instill appropriate behavior as well as work and study habits in adolescent students; of housekeeping techniques and management; to read, comprehend, interpret, communicate and execute instructions or directives fluently in English.
