Description

This position requires an individual who is well versed in Teradata. The ideal candidate must enjoy working in a dynamic setting, with a unique ability to effectively juggle multiple high priority challenges. The Teradata Database Administrator is responsible for the creation and maintenance of databases that support all the Business efforts of the Company. This position will also be responsible for interfacing with various levels of the business; he/she will be required to assist other team members with projects as necessary.

 

Engineering & Administration

· Responsible for supporting the Teradata databases and ensuring their performance, availability and security.

· Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.

· To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.

· Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.

· Responsible for providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.

· Own and maintain documentation for database and server infrastructure.

 

Qualifications/Skills
  • Ability to solve complex problems spanning multiple technologies and disciplines
  • Proven core Teradata Database administration experience, upgrades, migrations and patching
  • Experience with Teradata Manager, AWS and be able to develop new alerts/alarms notification
  • Out of hours and weekend working will be necessary
  • Responsible for backup and recovery strategies; Teredata BAR solutions
  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
  • Proactive DB Maintenances, Table Scan, Packdisk, Scandisk, etc.
  • Will be responsible for defining new ETL requirements and work with Autosys team to implement new ETL job schedules and job dependencies.
  • Debug/write scripts and SQL for client tools such as bteq, mload, fastload, fastexport and similar tools
  • Experience with other database systems, preferably Oracle and MS SQL Server

Create business solutions/partnership by working with internal and external staff to ensure company success

 


 

Requirements

Experience Required/Preferred/Optional

· Required – Expertise with Teradata Database Administration and Management (3-5 years)

· Required – Expertise with Teradata SQL, Stored procedure, Macros, and UNIX Shell & ETL Scripting

· Required – Expertise with DB/Application Access Controls & Restrictions

· Required – Expertise with Database Design, High Availability and Disaster Recovery Solutions

· Preferred – Knowledge in Teradata’s DCM (Demand Chain Management) front end web applications.

· Preferred – Knowledge in Teradata DCM Batch application and be able to perform basic troubleshooting of its components, such as Batch scripts, SQL, Apache, SDGserver and others.

· Preferred – Strong UNIX administration (Solaris, Suse Linux & MP-RAS)

· Preferred – Knowledge in Microsoft IIS web server management and troubleshooting.

· Optional – Experience with Oracle 10g; MS SQL Server experience

 

Certifications:           Teradata Certification, etc. not necessary but a plus

 

Education:                 This position requires a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent discipline
