Chief Clinical Officer
The Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) is
- Responsible for the development and implementation of clinical services policies and procedures.
- Accountable for a current knowledge base in all patient care concepts, nursing scope and standards of practice.
- Is a role model for all clinical interdisciplinary assessment, treatment, education, and discharge planning of patients.
- Provides for the education and orientation of staff as appropriate.
- Responsible for implementing an interdisciplinary system that provides quality services and is focused on patients’ health and functional outcomes. These functions are carried out according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement, performance improvement plan, and the philosophy of all clinical services departments.
- Serves as the Nurse Executive and has the authority to speak on behalf of all clinical departments and represents these departments to the Governing Board. This position may require direct patient care.
- Responsibility for formulating plans, designs, practices, policies, methods, regulations, and procedures for operations or projects. Must be able to access, plan, implement and evaluate patient care and treatment. Must have sound decision making ability and advanced problem solving skills. Must plan, direct, implement, coordinate and control activities of the clinical departments. Must be articulate when problem solving with patients, families, staff, peers, and physicians.

DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY: The ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with medical and administrative staff as well as patients and families, In an assertive, professional manner. Self-motivated, self-directed with excellent organizational skills. Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to organize and manage departments, and meetings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field and hold a current Registered Nurses license in the state of Texas. Masters degree preferred in Nursing or a related field. The CCO must possess the knowledge and skills associated with a Master’s degree. There must be a plan of action in place to obtain these qualifications. These qualifications include current theoretical approaches to the delivery of nursing care and strategies for examining and applying relevant concepts. Current leadership, management and performance improvement concepts and the ability to plan, develop and implement strategies to address opportunities for improving the delivery of patient care. Experience in writing policies and procedures. Good written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computers with minimum word processing skills. Proven experience with development of positive relationships with coworkers, and customers.
