Clinical Duties
Appraise patient’s ability to participate in activities of daily living based on needs, strengths and levels of functioning. Move patients toward independence and self-direction by employing such skills as motivation, limit setting, persuading, guiding and comfort.
Employ principles of communication, problem solving, interviewing and crisis intervention in carrying through psychotherapeutic interventions. Demonstrate knowledge of psychopathology and its healthy adaptive counterparts in planning and implementing programs of care.
Assist patients in the development of their own internal controls through the effective use of limit setting on destructive patient behavior.
Effectively use the principles of crisis intervention to reduce the agitation of the disturbed patient.
Function as a clinical consultant to other than mental health nurses in an effort to assist them in meeting the emotional needs of our patients through direct patient intervention and staff development.
Assume relief charge nurse duties. Coordinate and supervise the clinical activities of nursing care. Assure staff qualifications meet assignment care requirements. Develop contingency plan for unexpected events during shift.
Serve as a patient advocate and maintain patient’s right to confidentiality. Assist patients, families and significant others in identifying limitations.
Technically direct and teach other medical staff and provide educational lectures and participate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.
Systematically monitor effectiveness of practice through client database and outcomes evaluation. Synthesize and use the results of these evaluations to make or recommend changes including policy, procedure of protocol documentation.
Demonstrate appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of healthcare team members, patient care and clinic activities.
Requirements
NURSES SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a US citizen
C.7.6 Health care workers shall maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health care Providers; American Heart Association Health care Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or equivalent.
C.8.6.1 Possess education as follows: Either (a), a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing; or (b) a Diploma Graduate in Nursing; or (c) an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited university.
C.8.6.2 Possess and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
C.8.6.4 Possess a minimum of two years of experience within the preceding three years in the specialty area in which services are to be performed.
TO# 9 3.1.1. Possess a minimum of 2 years RN experience in a mental health unit within the preceding 3 years; OR, 2 years of comparable, RN experience within the preceding 3 years in a related mental health patient care setting.
