JOB DESCRIPTION

A Program is defined as a set of external or internal projects for one customer.  These projects could be of the same discipline or of different disciplines.  The Program may involve multiple business and technology areas such as SCADA, POLARIS, Simulation, GIS, Advanced Operational Applications, Advanced Business Application, IT Services, Expert Services, Terminal/Tank Farm Automation, Facility Commissioning, Data Warehousing, OSI PI, etc.

 

Program Director manages the life cycle of the program, including program conceptualization, planning, development, implementation, and on-going maintenance to deliver the desired results.   The Program Director manages two or more internal or external projects as a part of the Program.  The size of the Program (multiple projects) will be over 15MM USD.

 

The Program Director will also be responsible for growing and extending the business within the customer base.  The Program Director will be given clear growth targets for each year of the program.

 

This position has overall Program (multiple external and internal projects) responsibility from Authorization to proceed to the end of the life cycle of the program. This involves ensuring all terms and conditions of the contract are met to the Customer’s satisfaction and interfacing with other departments in the Company. This position is the official Company representative for the projects and all major decisions are either made or approved by the Program Director. This position will typically be assigned to manage projects that are considered to have an above average risk with respect to commercial or customer handling issues or a requirement for strong leadership.  Program may require other Project Managers to be assigned to the Program Director. Detailed responsibilities include:

Detailed Responsibilities

·         Develops and gains approval of the comprehensive plan for the program

·         Manages the Program Team to ensure on-time, on-budget achievement of the program goals and tangible deliverables in accordance with the approved program plan

·         Ensures financial performance of the program to established program plan goals and objectives

·         Develops and gains approval of the comprehensive plan for the extension of the program to meet the growth targets for each year of the program

·         Positions program correctly in the organization to ensure full understanding and successful implementation through analysis of needs and strategies and communication of the "what’s, how’s, and why’s of the program and its goals

·         Conducts periodic reviews of program throughout its life cycle to ensure compliance of program goals and objectives per approved program plan. Reports program status to appropriate levels of management.

·         Ensures resolution of cross-functional and cross-business unit problems that may occur during the program life cycle

·         Manages sub-contracts and relationships with partners and vendors to reduce the occurrence of problems and to quickly resolve any problems encountered

·         Reviews long-term program requirements to ensure optimization of cash flow, inventories, upgrades, etc

·         Plans the evolution of the program deliverables and the continuous improvement of those deliverables over their lifetime to ensure long term success

·         Prepares and executes program close-down plans

·         Develops program strategy for assigned program

·         Develops long term strategies for the assigned area of the program

·         Establishing and meeting project schedules for multiple projects within the Program

·         Cash Flow results for multiple external and or internal projects within the Program

·         Liquidated damages and other penalties

·         Progress and results reports per contract requirements

·         Scope control

·         Understanding and meeting customer requirements

·         Conformance of the individual project work and documents to ISO 9001 and Contract requirements

·         Planning work and resources required to complete the work on schedule for the Program

·         Overseeing subcontractor and supplier relationships for each individual project within the Program

·         Minimizing rework on the individual projects within the Program

·         Coordinating the Program within the Company

·         Communicating program requirements and results to management

·         Communicating individual project requirements and results to management and members of the project teams

·         Building and supporting the project teams

·         Managing relationships with the customer

·         Ensuring all relevant project communication is properly documented and tracked for the entire Program

·         Growing the margin from the booked value for the entire Program

·         Improving the project delivery process for the entire Program

·         Customer satisfaction

·         Demonstrating leadership through coaching and mentoring of other PMs


Requirements

·       Experience - A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline such as Math, Physics or Geosciences, with 12+ years related post-secondary experience including 10+ years of experience managing projects in the industrial automation environment, or

·       Experience - A Technology Diploma with 14+ years related post-secondary experience in software/systems development, preferably in the SCADA industry including 12+ years of experience managing projects in the industrial automation environment

·       Experience - Exposure to most if not all of the following disciplines: marketing, finance, engineering, information technology, service delivery and professional services. In depth experience in at least one of the disciplines previously mentioned.

·       Knowledge - Must have proven skills in business and program/project management. Must have strong, proven ability to gain credibility, lead and positively influence a wide variety of internal and external constituents. Leads and manages through positive power and influence through the use of consultative skills including facilitation, coaching, training, negotiation, and diplomacy.

·       Knowledge - Requires some technical knowledge of product area and businesses/markets served. Must have effective negotiation skills, good communication skills and excellent change management skills. Must be able to think act both strategically and tactically to achieve the desired results.

·       Complexity — Must be able to deal with and effectively lead the variety of disciplines required on the program team. Must be able to recognize and deal with significant change. Must be able to manage the program through all phases of the program life cycle.

·       Impact — Has significant impact on the success of the assigned program and significant impact on the success of the company. Failure to perform could have a significant negative impact on medium to long term company performance and customer success.

·       A working knowledge of one or more of our customer base industries including a network of contacts

·       Project Management methods training and experience in coaching and mentoring other PMs

·       Knowledge of applicable ISO 9001 Procedures
