ioko, a professional services & systems integrator, builds large systems & software that enable world class media companies to deliver their content to the internet and mobile devices.  We are seeking an experienced Technical Architect.  This is a hands-on, customer facing role.  Ioko specializes in designing, building and running world-class technology platforms for large Media & Entertainment companies. As a global $100M company, we help customers build game-changing businesses, not products. We cater to broadcasters, content producers, internet portals, satellite & cable, telecommunications and pay & play gaming companies.

 

Role Overview

Architects are vital enablers to the ioko business plan. They understand ioko’s market offering and our strategy and they act in ways that help translate the strategy into reality by motivating and rallying developers around ioko’s best interests, or identifying capability gaps and helping to address those. They are very interested in improving they way that delivery is done. They are commercially and organizationally savvy and not naïve about how business and clients are won, kept and made profitable.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Principal responsibilities are hand-on : architecting and developing complex web applications and leading  the technical team(s) to achieve successful delivery (on budget, on date, on spec)
  • Act as a principal and key relationship owner with a significant client or partner and helped win ioko significant ($1,000,000+) new business
  • When not active on project deliver, help to materially improve ioko’s software development competence by initiating and managing programs of change e.g. best practice around a subject or drive an R&D initiative such as helping ioko skill-up in an emerging technology or product-set
  • Identifying emerging trends or technologies that could impact us in the future
  • Advise ioko technical teams on the means and methods to deliver world class software applications
  • Recommend effective solutions to highly complicated business requirements and technical issues
  • Make sound key decisions on technical projects related to software applications & architecture
  • Act as THE key member of project delivery teams and a “go-to" technical resource for Client Directors, Technical Project Managers and clients
  • Creating the architecture and design of the systems and justification of the solution to clients and/or 3rd parties
  • Communication of architecture and design to the team and supporting them in implementing it
  • Leading, mentoring and encouraging (and where necessary, enforcing) awareness and respect for software design and software engineering disciplines
  • Troubleshooting - fixing really difficult problems when they crop up in a client‟’ environment or system, coordinating rapid, expert on-the-ground technical response
  • Taking a senior client management approach, possibly solo though more likely in conjunction with others e.g. project manager, client director
  • Diagnosing complex technical environments by exuding technical credibility and quickly diagnosing problems and identifying solutions

  • 10+ years experience designing and building a variety of commercial, complex, enterprise systems with substantial client facing and team management experience.
  • Experience building digital media software systems and architecture
  • Worked on range of platforms i.e. not just web, but including client-server, o/s
  • Great logical design skills and logical-to-physical design skills
  • Deep technical skills across several enterprise technologies – both Java and .NET - and a good breadth across many technologies – no area of technology is a complete mystery. Knowledge spanning multiple platforms and architectures
  • Have worked closely with senior business people on requirements analysis and solution proposition
  • Have big architecture experience – i.e. able to think about multiple streams of design and how they tie together, and experience of Enterprise Architecture Models
  • Full lifecycle experience, highly technical and hands-on
  • Be committed to design, build and deployment excellence.
  • Hands-on experience with Java, J2EE, Websphere or Weblogic, Spring, Hibernate, Struts, JBOSS, Tomcat, Apache and Oracle, virtualisation technologies
  • Experience writing highly deployable, web-based software applications
  • Ability to demonstrate experience with Struts, Spring & Hibernate frameworks and that advantages of using them
  • Experience developing enterprise software applications
  • Good communications skills
  • Ability and desire to work with a team and have fun
  • Travel average 50%, can be up to 75%
  • Bachelors degree in business or technology related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
