DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES

 

Valmont West Coast Engineering, the world leader in the design and manufacture of steel structures for the support of lighting and traffic fixtures is currently seeking a well-qualified Quality Assurance/Safety Coordinator to join our team in Ferndale, WA.  Reporting to the Plant Manger.

 

This position is accountable for welder certifications, audit of welding equipment and procedures. This position insures that quality of manufactured or purchased products conforms to customer specifications, Valmont specifications, and nationally recognized standards.  The position, working within the Department, seeks to improve product quality,  auditing and/or improving manufacturing processes and resolving field problems.

This Candidate must be a “hands on"  individual who provides leadership, guidance, accident investigation and safety auditing.  The candidate will assist in the development and implementation of Safety and Health policies, procedures and programs in accordance to Valmont’s Safety Philosophy. 

 

Requirements
  • 3-4 years of experience in Quality Assurance and Safety in a Manufacturing Enviornment
  • BA or BS degree from a four year college or relevant experience preferred
  • Perferred Certified Welder Inspector
  • 2-3 Years in Lean Manufacturing Preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA’s regulations for general industry.
  • Be able to read and interpret production drawings, specifications, and codes.
  • Must be knowledgeable in welding fabrication process.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills
  • Strong ability to establish priorities and meet deadlinesAbility to work with minimal supervision.
  • Basic Computer Knowledge- MS office proficient

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


Safety:

  • Participate in the development of safety and health policies, practices and procedures
  • Monitor new legislation as it relates to safety and health standards and practices and facilitate changes, as necessary
  • Lead the development of and provide guidance to location safety personnel regarding facility specific issues relative to safety and health programs and practices
  •  Identify, investigate, report and provide guidance relative to root causes for incidents, employee safety programs, regulatory compliance relative to safety and health
  • Develop and implement solutions for emergency preparedness plans for company sites
  • Monitor and analyze safety trends and implement programs designed to improve company results
  •  Provide leadership, guidance and technical support to operations management and safety committees
  • Assist in the development and administration of company safety incentive programs, including the evaluation of the effectiveness of such programs in positively changing employee behavior
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Valmont Safety Mission Statement and Corporate Safety’s Critical Success Factors Process.  This position will have a working knowledge of chemicals and how they interact with one another
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor

 

Quality Assurance:

  • Keeps Plant Manger fully informed of all conditions uncovered by audits and inspections.  Maintains a close working relationship with manufacturing supervision, product engineering, and shop personnel to ensure all pertinent information pertaining to specifications and testing is communicated.  Also, the candidate would be responsible for material certification packages.

  • The incumbent is required to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable quality of the product from the raw materials to making of pieces parts and through the final assembly.  Includes the finish and shipment of the product.  Judgments on workmanship and weld quality of the product are made on a daily basis.

  • On a daily basis, the incumbent must make decisions on acceptability of the products using NDT equipment, Valmont Specifications, customer specifications, and AWS code.  A great deal of job knowledge and experience is a must in this position.

  • Inspection of raw materials, vendor items, piece parts, and final assembly on a timely basis is a must to minimize delays in assembly and shipment of the product and to insure against costly field repairs.  Inspection insures the integrity of the product.  The incumbent reports on weld quality problems to Production Management

  • With our mode of inspection (100% of tubes and final assemblies), the incumbent must be a self-starter, work well with a small amount of supervision, be a decision maker, and be motivated to getting the job done, to insure no delays in production.  Must allocate time to minimize delays
