Republic Services, Inc. and Allied Waste Industries, Inc. announced Friday, December 5, 2008, that they have completed their historic merger to create one of the nation's leading waste and environmental services providers. The combined company, which will be based in Phoenix, will be named Republic Services, Inc. and will trade under the ticker symbol "RSG" on The New York Stock Exchange. As of the close of the market on December 5, 2008, Allied Waste stock was delisted and will no longer trade on NYSE. The combined company will have more than 35,000 employees serving more than 13 million customers in 40 states and Puerto Rico.

Summary - Database Administrator
This position performs a variety of complex administrative and technical activities to manage the database and data dictionaries of the enterprise including but not limited to troubleshooting and database system planning and management. .
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: Manager, Software Development
Supervises: N/A

Responsibilities - Database Administrator
The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.
- Responsible for installation, patching and upgrades on all enterprise database systems
- Responsible for user provisioning and security on all enterprise database systems
- Maintains the integrity of data within the production environment – including execution of proper backup and restoration policies and procedures.
- Provides input on the selection and implementation of all database administration tools.
- Assists with database cleanup and optimization activities.
- Assists with data modeling and database design.
- Assists with preparation of detailed technical specifications.
- Develops ETL for data warehouse projects
- Helps in database programming, troubleshooting and management of problems affecting IT and enterprise database applications, as well as developing the area for future expansion.
- Provides Tier 3 support and resolution of open database issues escalated by IT Customer Support.
- Develops strong vendor relationships to resolve problems and coordinate the delivery of IT products and services.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Database Administrator
Experience, Education, Certification
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years experience performing database administration responsibilities.
- Experience with multiple database systems such as SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008
- Experience with development and maintenance of database objects like stored procedures, functions, DTS packages, SSIS packages
- Experience with developing ETL for data warehouse projects
Preferred:
- Experience with data warehouse design
- Experience with .NET development, C#,
- Experience with SQL Reporting services
- Experience in Oracle 10g
Other knowledge, skills, Abilities :
- Ability to interact with IT personnel on all levels to resolve issues and provide solutions in a timely manner.
- Understands the need for and consistently practices effective teamwork with others.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Capable of prioritizing and managing assignments, tasks, and significant projects to completion with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a detail oriented approach while multitasking in a fast paced environment.
- Proficient with all currently supported application development standards in use at Republic Services.
- Ability to provide assistance with creation and maintenance of database development and maintenance standards in use at Republic Services.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals.
- Very high level of proficiency in the database programming language or other development and administration tools used in specific area of responsibility.
