Description
This position requires an individual who is well versed in Oracle. The ideal candidate must enjoy working in a dynamic setting, with a unique ability to effectively juggle multiple high priority challenges. The Database Administrator is responsible for the creation and maintenance of databases that support all the Business efforts of the Company. This position will also be responsible for interfacing with various levels of the business; he/she will be required to assist other team members with projects as necessary.
Engineering & Administration
· Responsible for supporting the Oracle databases and ensuring their performance, availability and security.
· Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.
· To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
· Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
· Responsible for providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
· Own and maintain documentation for database and server infrastructure.
Requirements
Qualifications/Skills
- Ability to solve complex problems spanning multiple technologies and disciplines
- Proven core Oracle Database administration experience, upgrades, migrations and patching
- Experience managing multiple RDBMS on large systems
- Out of hours and weekend working will be necessary
- Experience with cloning, backup and recovery strategies; exposure to TSM/Netbackup preferable
- Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
- Experience with other database systems, preferably SQL Server
- Practical experience in managing internal and external MS SQL database secuirty

Experience Required/Preferred/Optional
· Required – Expertise with Oracle 9i and 10g (5-7 years)
· Required – Expertise with SQL Queries and Shell Scripting
· Required – Expertise with Service Oriented Architectures (J2EE)
· Required – Expertise with Database Design, High Availability and Disaster Recovery Solutions
· Required – Knowledge of MS SQL Server
· Preferred – Oracle 11i experience
· Preferred – Strong UNIX administration and Shell Scripting
· Preferred – Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Skills
· Optional – Experience with Teradata engineering
· Optional – Strong exposure with SAN (EMC)
Certifications:
Oracle Certification, etc. not necessary but a plus
Education:
This position requires a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent discipline
