Summary - Electronic & Instrument Technician

Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, clean, inspect and calibrate; electrical systems, signal generating instruments, control systems, Programmable Logic Controllers , SCADA and power distribution systems throughout the Macon Water Authority facilities. Update and keep current all electrical and instrumentation diagrams, documentation and PLC programs to known industry standards and those engineering standards of the MWA.

Responsibilities - Electronic & Instrument Technician

  • Maintain electrical systems at optimal reliability levels
  • Maintain and improve functionality of SCADA for optimal performance of the treatment, processing, distribution and conveyance systems.
  • Keep drawings and written documents up to date and redlined to current system configuration.
  • Maintain calibration of all instrumentation. Assure all instruments recognized by any regulatory agency are current and historical “as found" and “as left data" is recorded and any significant deviations are communicated to appropriate departments for appropriate action and logging.
  • Monitor and supply feedback on current Predictive contracts for electrical and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot PLC programming issues.
  • Troubleshoot control loops and systems for operational efficiency.
  • Effective written and oral communication of issues affecting the electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Supply input and create engineering standards for installation, maintenance and repairs of electrical and instrumentation assets.
  • Supply planning details for maintenance planner and schedulers.
  • Properly document work requirements and improvements thru the AMS (Asset Management System) for effective planning and scheduling of all work. Support the maintenance planners and schedulers to effectively input PM and corrective work packages.
  • Create SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for the operations personnel on their critical systems for effective operations.
  • Anticipates typical problems, identify potential or recurring problems, and take appropriate action.
  • Initiates and complete work-orders and requisitions, and documents all critical information on a routine basis.
  • Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards, and report them immediately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. .

Requirements - Electronic & Instrument Technician :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited technical college or university.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in electrical and/or instrumentation.
  • Training on PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • Willing to work on both electrical systems and control systems.
  • Experience with small and large horsepower VFD drives.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with analyzers, field transmitters, control valves, Field bus and other communications protocol
  • Able to work without direct supervision and accept leadership roles when required.
  • Valid GA driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Proficient with HMI software Wonderware
  • Proficient with Proworx32, Concept and proficient with Allen Bradley software used in PLC-5, SLC-5, SLC-500.

  • Proficient with Schneider Momentum PLC’s



Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking.
  • Frequently working over water, open spaces, at heights, and in close spaces.
  • Ability to carry 25 pounds up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, stooping and occasionally sitting, crawling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
  • Ability to grasp and hold.
