Full-time Surgical Tech Instructor

 

Brown Mackie College-Ft. Wayne is recruiting for a full-time Surgical Tech Instructor.  Position requires candidate to be a Certified Surgical Technologist.

 

POSITION: 

The classroom instructor provides the guidance, encouragement, and direction necessary to allow students to achieve established course objectives.  Working within the structure of the syllabus, the instructor is to be an effective classroom manager and an advocate of the mission and policies of Brown Mackie College.  The instructor is a major factor in the development of professionalism and skill development of students through their expertise and modeling.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Conduct all classes in a professional manner, instruct all classes for the scheduled amount of time, and dress appropriately for the business college classroom.

 

  • Follow the course outline provided in the approved syllabus and obtain the approval of the department chair before making adjustment to the syllabus.

 

  • Use the adopted text and other instructional materials provided within the class structure, and be prepared with a lesson plan for each class session, and make recommendations to the department chair to improve instructional materials if needed.

 

  • Provide students with a syllabus, academic credentials, and purpose of the course (as related to career and employment) during the first session of the course, and any classroom policies established for the class.

 

  • Be completely familiar with both student and faculty handbooks, if provided.

 

  • Attend all in-service sessions and required faculty meetings.

 

  • Verify professional development through reading the materials provided by our professional development coordinator, on a regular basis.

 

  • Understand and follow the departmental policies ordering instructional supplies and repairing equipment through the department chair.

 

  • Notify the department chair or dean when unable to conduct a scheduled class and provide the substitute the lesson plan to conduct the class.

 

  • Conduct student assessments for all classes taught.

 

  • Conduct a midterm evaluation of the course using the form provided for each class taught.

 

  • Maintain clear, complete, and accurate attendance and grade reports and follow the policies established for such procedures.

 

  • Provide a daily lesson plan for each session of class and a course goal sheet (submitted to the department chair).

 

  • Ensure that classrooms are kept clean and orderly and that the classroom is restored to the original condition at the start of class.

 

  • In the final grade packet, turn in a grade matrix for each class which clearly states the weighting and scores used to develop each student’s grade.

 

  • Notify the Student Advisor and/or department chair of any student having attendance or academic difficulties through the use of the daily “at risk" form.

·         Instructors are encouraged to participate in all meetings, events, and activities at Brown Mackie College. 


 

·         All instructors are encouraged to be innovative and creative in the classroom.  Instructors are the main force used to instill the skill and professional attitudes that allow students to succeed in their careers.  


 

·         The academic department has on file samples for each course of syllabi, lesson plans, quizzes, tests, etc.  These materials may be used as a tool to help instructors and may be adapted to fit the style of the individual instructor.


 

·         New instructors will be observed during their first month of instruction at Brown Mackie College by a department chair or the dean.
