QVC’s IT division has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become a Senior Windows Systems Administrator at our Studio Park (West Chester, PA) location.
Duties include Windows and VMware ESX server administration, monitoring system performance and capacity, maintenance tuning and root cause analysis of QVC’s server technology. Works on projects and supports the IT infrastructure and is part of on-call rotation for 24x7 support. As part of a project team, is also server technical lead on projects. Assists with hardware/software selection and costs, working with other teams to setup and configure the hardware, supporting our application team with projects, providing support post-project, writing documentation and training appropriate support personnel. Responsibilities also include providing root cause analysis of escalated and complex incident reports. Selects, evaluates and implements System Admin tools, and works with vendors as needed. Receives some supervision from management and is competent to work at the highest level of systems administration. Able to work well on their own and provides assistance and training to lower level administrators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor the current configuration and system performance to guarantee the utmost availability (7x24) of our Windows and ESX host systems.
Work on projects, completing required tasks, and meeting deadlines as assigned.
Execute any required configuration changes and customizations required to support changes in application or operating environment, including hardware changes and additions.
Assist in the tuning and debugging of application processes recommending any throughput improvements required
Resolve escalated and complex incident reports, and provides root cause analysis for incident reports, providing descriptive and timely updates for all assigned incidents to appropriate management staff.
Provide technical leadership to other systems administrators, demonstrates excellent technical aptitude, able to provide technical direction to team members, other departments.
Evaluate and test system software tools and hardware.
Manipulate performance metrics and support processes to generate data as input to the Performance and Capacity reports.
Documents standards and operating procedures for QVC systems and acts as a technical resource to the IT staff and system users. Provides training and documentation to support personnel on projects to complete turnover to production, and provides knowledge transfer to various departments.
Provide support to Operations and Production Control for problems and questions. Interface with Operations personnel in implementing actions required to fix any situation that may compromise systems availability
Liaison for vendor support
Performs related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree required in Computer Science, Information Science or related field of study, or equivalent years experience.
8+ years recent experience working in a large corporate environment installing, monitoring and troubleshooting servers and applications running in a multi-tier environment.
3 – 5 years WIndows systems administration experience.
Experience with Windows and VMware ESX server technologies.
Must understand business processes as they pertain to the IT infrastructure.
. Unix and Linux experience a plus
Good consultative skills.
Ability to work effectively with other systems technical staff, consultants and vendors.
Proven track record of coordinating multiple server projects, which involve interaction with other systems and departments.
Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
Solid organization, communication and analytical skills.
Experience with technical documentation, and ability to train support personnel.
General programming or scripting experience a plus.
Project management experience a plus.
