Job Summary:
A Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Firmware & Software design engineering team is responsible for design, sustaining and issue resolution of T&D product lines for Sub-station Automation, Meters, and Transformer Monitoring and Diagnostics. This role will be focused on developing the next generation of substation automation equipment for the global market. More specifically, this role will focus on the development of Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) for the automation equipment. A variety of country and utility requirements will be encountered and a continual set of challenging engineering tasks will be encountered as these requirements are finalized and projects to serve these different markets are launched.
Essential Functions:
Work jointly with integrated GE T&D Design teams located in US, Canada and India
Design, development & validation of Graphical User Interface for embedded systems
Troubleshooting, resolving issues and enhancing existing applications designed using C/C++ & Java
Develop conceptual designs and detailed designs in accordance with established engineering processes, submit design code for reviews, update the designs as required as a result from reviews
Develops new technology relevant to the industry and T&D products and identifies ways to apply that technology in new products
Resolve field issues and quality issues through analysis and design changes
Creating required design documentation as per NPI Guidelines
Basic Qualifications:
BS or MS in engineering (i.e. Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering) with
5+ years of hands on experience in Design & Development of embedded systems
5+ years experience in Java Swing programming
3+ years experience in embedded Linux development
2+ years experience in C/C++ programming
2+ years experience in Common Gateway Interface (CGI) development
2+ years experience with XML
2+ years experience in XML schema development
Desired Characteristics:
2+ years experience with Ant, Spring, Castor, & J-goodies
2+ years experience with CVS code management tools
2+ years experience with Shell Scripting, Perl
Capacity of listening (end users), and synthesizing needs understanding in a multi-cultural environment
Organized, ability to multi-task and stay organized
Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills
